Some good new reads

Wow. What a history lesson. Not only an amazing insight into indigenous culture but an interesting and confronting history of white settlement. This book will make you think. 3 stars for me only because I found it a bit long winded in parts and started to skim the story but I’m glad I read it for the insight and reminder of how brutal out history is. #robertmacklin #castaway. Any else read?

Gosh I’ve only just discovered Colleen Hoover and I need more. I loved this book. She writes in the style I like. Captivating, interesting yet simple enough to drift away and not have to concentrate. I was addicted to her other book Ugly Love too, but it was possibly a bit too Mills and Boonish for me. This one appealed. Anyone else read any of her books? Colleen Hoover #verity

Has anyone else read this? The same author who wrote The Nightingale has released this epic story. I absolutely loved this. I really like the way Kristin writes. It’s easy to follow and there’s a great storyline, not just pages and pages of descriptive text like some books do. A warning - this is a sad book but just so beautiful at the same time.

Book club questions for The Dutch house: 1. Would you ever forgive your mother for doing this? And your father? 2. What did you imagine the house to look like? 3. Why did Celeste never forgive Maeve when she could see how important she was in her husbands life? ... 4. Danny seems to obsess with the house. Do you think he should have moved on for the sake of his current family? 5. Would you like to have read more about Maeve’s thoughts on their journey and understanding her motives? Happy reading #thedutchhouse #annpatchett

Did you know that Concubines were only made illegal in Hong Kong in 1971 so there are still many children of concubines still living today? This interesting story is fictional based in Malaysia by Aussie author Carol Jones. Better to be sold as a concubine to a rich man than be a poor mans wife was the rationale.

2 great thrillers. 4 stars to The good girl and 5 to An Anonymous girl. Both featuring on good reads top reader lists. Found the later highly addictive.

Favourite book from the holidays. This family saga has both fictional characters and real historical facts to it. A very good insight into being a Korean in Japan. This book resonated with me. Perhaps it’s my love of a little bit of a history lesson at the same time as a good read. #pachinko #minjinlee

It’s taken me a long time to get to this book but I’m glad I did. Not 5 stars, perhaps 4 but well written and interesting characters. Haven’t seen the movie. Anyone seen it?

Anyone read this? I liked it and found myself wanting to read but found the language very brutal.

This one is terrific. Anyone else read? Recommend.

Thanks Mel for this recommendation. Finished in 2 sittings. Was intrigued to know what was going to happen to these normal/not normal characters. A love story defined by youth and communication issues.

So this book won the Man Booker 2018 but I’ve just struggled through this and found it boring and annoying. Anyone else? It gets some good reviews on #goodreads. #milkman #annaburns #manbooker

Well worth the read. Easy, quick and clever story about a deranged sister and her enabler. Blood is thicker than water. #mysistertheserialkiller #oyinkanbraithwaiye
