Being a single parent of twins, naturally enough, presented financial challenges. My family survived on a fixed income with many expenses. The expenses increased and changed, continuously. I needed to watch the family spending very carefully. Thirty four years ago, for the first time in my life, I created a manual budget spreadsheet. That was way back when income tax returns were done with a pen and calculator and then mailed with all supporting documents to CCRA!

Lack of organization has an evil sister - procrastination! Organize your time and complete tasks that need to be dealt with. The same can be said about finances. Know your monetary limitations, budget your income, expenses and fun funds. Do it right away or your goals will not be achieved, the bills will not be paid and your assets will age and wither. The first task I perform at the start of my day, right after I exercise, water my garden and walk my dog, is organize my day. I use my iphone calendar and a day book that I keep on my desk for extra notes. There are more complicated and expensive aps that can be used but I believe in the K.I.S.S. concept.
