Bordertown’s Cabernet Franc 2018 is on Special at BC Liquor Stores - January 31 to March 6. Bordertown’s flagship red wine is our award-winning Cabernet Franc 2018. And the great news, is Cabernet Franc is on sale at select BC Liquor Stores for just $19.99 - a savings of $2.00!... A grape that ripens about ten days earlier than Cabernet Sauvignon, Mohan absolutely LOVES Cabernet Franc and how it thrives in the warmer South Okanagan. One more reason that Cabernet Franc really appeals to Mohan is its winter hardiness. Once known chiefly as a component grape for classic Bordeaux blends, Cabernet Franc has now broken out on its own and is "loved for its unique charms." According to Anthony Gismondi, Cabernet franc buds and ripens early than cabernet sauvignon, it’s lighter in tannins, colour and body than the king of grapes, and typically matures earlier in the bottle. Bordertown's Cabernet Franc has deep expressive flavours of tobacco, dark spice, herbaceous green pepper, and a tiny hint of mint. All of this is achieved while maintaining supple tannins and dark berry flavours. The finish is pleasant and lengthy. We think you will LOVE Cabernet Franc with grilled steak and lamb chops, Portobello mushrooms, green olives, and dishes with pepper, rosemary and mint. Or just sit back and enjoy with dark chocolate! Here’s a review from celebrated wine writer John Schreiner: Judging from the large volume of Cabernet Franc made by Bordertown Vineyards in 2018, the variety has picked up a new champion in this Osoyoos winery operated by Mohan Gill. The grape produces lively, full-flavoured red wines that are often described as brambly because of the exuberant red berry aromas and flavours. Bordertown’s 2018 is an excellent example. Bordertown Cabernet Franc 2018. This wine begins with classic brambly aromas mingled with cassis and spice. On the palate, there are flavours of dark fruits (black cherry, fig) along with notes of tobacco and dark chocolate. The tannins are ripe but the firm texture marks this as a wine for decanting now or for aging five to seven years. 93. Happy 75th Birthday to our wonderful town- we are so proud to call Osoyoos our home! The Gill Family

Bordertown Vineyards and Estate Winery 30.11.2020

Meet Bordertown’s Iconic Red! Mohan Gill has always believed that Syrah is one of the most promising signature grape varieties grown in the South Okanagan. We proudly produce limited production reds only about 100 cases were made of each variety in the series. The wines are made with fruit from select vineyard parcels and vines with a disciplined crop load.... Do you love a big, swarthy, ripe syrah? Red wine enthusiasts are going to LOVE our Syrah 2017! It’s a robust, intense, rich luxurious red wine Because of the long days and all the heat in the South Okanagan, Bordertown’s limited production Syrah really shines! was fermented with care, gently made, and then ideally aged in a combination of new and seasoned American oak barrels. Big and ripe, this wine begins with an intense nose of smoked meat, cracked pepper and black fruits that leads the way to a palate that’s full of berry flavours and savoury notes. Drinking beautifully now, it will continue to evolve over the next 6 - 8 years. Supple, rounded and rich, this wine is full-bodied yet elegant. This wine has an impressively long finish. Pair with grilled pork chops or lamb, meat stuffed Portobello mushrooms, grilled veal chops. Accolades: John Schreiner 92 Points Bordertown Syrah 2017 (113 cases). This wine, aged in American oak barrels, begins with delicatessen aromas (meat and spice and pepper). The palate is full, with flavours of fig and plum. Earthy notes on the finish underline the robust character of this Syrah. Meet Bordertown’s Grüner Veltliner- it’s gaining a cult following! At Bordertown, our estate vineyards are lovingly overseen by Mohan. Mohan grows all of the mainstream Okanagan grapes, and some rising stars like our easy-drinking, crisp and refreshing Grüner Veltliner.... At Bordertown, we are one of the few producers of Grüner Veltliner in the Okanagan Valley. Only one acre of Grüner Veltliner was planted. You’ll find it on well-drained, gravelly soil on a gently sloping, south east and west facing block behind the winery between Highway 97 and Lake Osoyoos. This means that this wine is a RARE TREAT and is quickly gaining a CULT following ! I was looking for something different and Frank Whitehead of Okanagan Viticulture Services suggested GV vines sourced from Ontario, Gill told Orchard and Vine magazine. Here's some interesting facts about Grüner Veltliner: -Until the 1990s very few wine lovers outside Austria had even heard of Grüner Veltliner! -The name translates to Green Wine of Veltlin. -The leaves of the grape vine are five-lobed with bunches that are long but compact. -With flavours of green pepper and lime, Grüner Veltliner is an exotic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc. -The primary fruit flavors in Grüner Veltliner are lime, lemon and grapefruit. -There is also a green and herbaceous flavor that is often described as white pepper. Bordertown’s Grüner Veltliner blends aromas of PINEAPPLE and HONEY with a tinge of MINERALITY followed by flavours of WHITE PEACH and APRICOT. -This wine has GENEROUS WEIGHT and a RICH TEXTURE on the palette, with a delicious, PERSISTENT FINISH. - Grüner Veltliner is a delightful fruity white wine for all occasions! The best food pairings for Grüner Veltliner https://www.matchingfoodandwine.com//the-best-food-pairin/ We invite you to drop by for a tasting! Bringing in the Grapes! It’s been a gorgeous fall in Osoyoos. This week, the week weather conditions were ideal for harvesting our flagship, staple grape, Cabernet Franc. Year to year climate variations will affect timing of the harvest season.... Cabernet Franc is a later maturing red variety. When harvested late, the grapes mature to create more complex and concentrated flavours. The fruit is just amazing! The timing of the grape harvest is one of the most important decisions affecting the winemaking process. Mohan has been in the vineyards daily to determine the best time for our Cabernet Franc harvest. He monitors the physiological ripeness of our grapes to determine the optimal time to pick. Acid levels in wine are very important as they give it balance and structure. The aromas are vibrant and the acidity is high. Our grapes are hand picked - Cabernet franc's moderately long bunch stem makes it easy to pick by hand. Mohan is very excited about this year’s flavourful Cabernet Fran grapes. He’s tireless in his efforts because he knows that a great bottle of wine reflects the hard work in the vineyards. All that care and consistency in the vineyards really pays off. So long harvest! It’s a wonderful time of the year. It’s been a harvest to remember. We will have really nice full-bodied wines with great fruit expression to look forward to!

We are just delighted that Bordertown’s Merlot 2016 won a Silver in the 2020 BC Lieutenant Governors Wine Awards! The BC Lieutenant Governor's Wine Awards recognizes excellence in winemaking for all licensed British Columbia wineries. Merlot is a staple of the south Okanagan, and from our estate vineyards comes this version, which offers up a plethora of aromas and flavours that will surprise and amaze. It balances ripe red fruits, black raspberry and rhubarb with pepper, h...erbs and spices, stewed plums and a tiny hint of mint, all within an integrated oak structure. It has medium body and wonderfully supple tannins. Merlot is a lovely wine for Italian sausage, spaghetti with meatballs, burgers and braised short ribs. BC VQA CERTIFIED This is a big, ripe wine (14.9% alcohol), dark in the glass, with aromas of black currant, black cherry and blueberry. On the palate, the vibrant black fruit flavours explode, delivering black currant and black cherry mingled with tobacco and cedar. There is good concentration here, with a satisfying finish. 91 Points - John Schreiner $25.00 https://bordertownwinery.com/product/merlot-2016/

Living Desert White 2017 - an elegant, great value wine Bordertown wines use top 100% estate grown fruit for wines that highlight the very best of the varietals that flourish in the South Okanagan Bordertown’s signature aromatic Living Desert white blend is comprised of Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Gruner Veltliner. ... A white blend refers to any white wine that contains more than one white grape varietal. Since white varieties are distinctly aromatic, the key to making quality blended wines from these grapes is preserving those aromas. Blending produces complex wines that are better enjoyed a few degrees warmer than chilled varietals. Living Desert White 2017 delivers with delicious, refreshing, bright tropical fruit. This amazing blend has soft floral notes that open up to aromas of mineral, peach, apple and pear. The palate is fresh and clean exhibiting a blend of stone/citrus fruit, mineral, with a touch of spice on the finish. Living Desert White has a full mouthfeel, balanced acidity and a medium finish.
