For those of you who are 40 and older and pregnant. I encourage you to get all the information and make an informed choice concerning your options for birthing. I am always happy to meet with pregnant people to provide more information and answer questions whether they choose midwifery care or not. Quote from Evidence Based Birth (https://evidencebasedbirth.com/advanced-maternal-age/): "The current UpToDate recommendation for women aged 40 and older is to give birth at 39 weeks. This recommendation is based on Grade 2C evidence. UptoDate states that Grade 2C is essentially an expert opinion; a weak recommendation based on very low-quality evidence." Here is a great handout to help with making a decision to induce or not to induce labour if you are 40 or older https://www.ontariomidwives.ca//In-due-time-pregnancy-beyo

What does a midwife do? Here is the Cannadian Association Of Midwives explanation. I wholeheartedly agree, although there are some things I can't provide at this point as we are waiting on regulations still and there are no registered midwives working in the Yukon. I don't have access to many tests and screens and I can't offer true choice of birth place without hospital privileges. In the meantime, the care is the same. The focus on informed choice is the same. That I am there for my clients 24/7 is the same. https://canadianmidwives.org/what-midwife/

This could be a great solution for some of you especially in these times! McMaster University is offering free online treatment workshops for women who have been feeling depressed, down, or anxious after the birth of a baby. These workshops are based on Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) and are being offered as part of a research study. Women will be eligible to participate if they are living in Canada, 18 years or older and have a baby under 1 year old.... Check out this article in the Whitehorse Star. They did a great job summing it all up. Hopefully this will be another push to move forward and not hold up regulations despite Covid-19 https://www.whitehorsestar.com//expectant-mothers-seeking-

Thanks for sharing this Community Midwifery Association of Yukon ! What a helpful free workshop based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Postpartum is a tough time for all women, maybe you find yourself in a space where this will help!

While it is true, we are waiting on Midwifery regulations to come through, I am still practicing the same way I have since the year 2000. If you are looking for a Midwife for complete care including home birth or any part of your pregnancy or postpartum period I am here and still available.

Hope you will join CMAY in celebrating International Day of the Midwife with another Birth Story event!

Wow, I sure hope that people here are more educated on this, but just in case you heard any of these myths, here are the myth busters from the WHO concerning COVID-19

While I am still practicing and my services are available I really hope that this government will speed up the implementation of regulated Midwifery in the Yukon so we have a plan in place and midwives can be a part of the system! It is just a smart move to have Midwifery integrated. Love the recommendations in this article...
