Borrel 02.01.2021

We're finalizing menu details for this upcoming weekend and we'll post them tomorrow. But we thought it'd be fun to throw a different stamppot into the mix. "Stamppot" encompasses the Dutch culinary art of mashing potatoes in a pot with vegetables. It's most commonly presented as boerenkool, with stewed kale, which we serve on our menu year-round. But there are many other stamppots to be savoured! We'll be doing a different one once a month as a special -- call it our Mash of... the Month! For this week, we'll have zuurkool. Mashed potatoes come together with sauerkraut for a unique flavour. Unlike boerenkool, some butter gets mixed in with the potatoes for a richer taste. As always, orders come with Dutch smoked sausage, bacon lardons and gravy and it's just as filling and hearty as any stamppot! Full menu up tomorrow. Stay safe and hope to see you on Friday or Saturday!

Thank you so much for the overwhelming response for our next rijsttafel! We're all sold out. We'll let you know if any more orders become available and we'll definitely be doing another one next month. Thanks again!

Dag! Hope you're enjoying the weekend. Thanks so much to everyone who came by and making our first weekend of 2021 a busy one. We're going to be doing our first rijsttafel of the year this month on Friday, Jan. 22, and Saturday, Jan. 23. Of course, it'll have to be the takeout version but that seems to have gone over pretty well last year. Rijsttafel (rice table) is a collection of Indonesian dishes featuring bold sweet and spicy flavours to accompany a generous helping of na...si goreng (Indonesian fried rice). You'll get everything listed on the menu (swipe over). Meals for two are $85 and for four $150. From past customers we've heard there are always plenty of leftovers! Orders are limited, so please email us at [email protected] to reserve. Let us know if you prefer to pick up on the Friday or Saturday and what time works best. Thanks as always, hope you're well!

Wow, that was fast! Thank you so much for the quick and enthusiastic response to our takeout rijsttafel next weekend. We're technically sold out but will announce next week should any extra orders become available. Open today at 3 p.m. Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Happy Saturday! Thanks so much for the busy first day back yesterday! We sold out of the stoofvlees special but still have krokets (pictured), kaassouffles, bitterballen and more available. Menu up at borrel.ca. Contact us at [email protected] or 647-349-5722. Open 2-6 p.m. Enjoy the weekend!

The other two in our fries-that-eat-like-a-meal series: Gouda 'n' Gravy and the Kapsalon. While I'm still on the lookout for Gouda in curd form here, the shredded variety with fries and gravy is still pretty good. And the Kapsalon (hairdressing salon) with house-made shawarma, salad, melted cheese and house-made garlic sauce, is always tasty and a nice tribute to Rotterdam, where my parents reside. ... Although truth be told, I don't think they've ever had one! Full menu for this weekend at borrel.ca. If you can, please place your order ahead of time for Friday or Saturday pickup to [email protected] to ensure we have enough! Thank you as always for putting up with my archaic takeout system!

Hi friends. Hope you're all hanging in there. Next week we were also hoping to have some tables for our Dutch-Indonesian rijsttafel feast. But we're happy to make it available for takeout! You can order for two for $80. Or for four people for $140. You get all the items on the menu on the second picture. Pickups will be on Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21. We have a limited number available so please email us at [email protected] to reserve an order.... Open tomorrow at 3 p.m. for our tin "schotel" takeout and still some spots on the patio if it's not too cold. Thanks as always! Stay safe!

Hello again. Well, looks like we'll be holding off on the indoor dining after all. We can still offer spots on the patio. I know it's getting a little colder so we're doing things a little earlier. Open 3-7 p.m. on Friday and 2-6 p.m. on Saturday. To help keep you warm on the patio or at home with takeout, we're doing some hot dishes in tin containers for the weekend! The aforementioned hachee shepherd's pie will be available. Also, the iconic kapsalon (hairdressing salon) fries dish and Gouda 'n' gravy. We've been getting some requests to bring back oma's macaroni and the tin container seems to be a good fit for it. Full menu up at borrel.ca. Email us at [email protected] if you want to book a spot on the patio. Be well!

Hello! Hope you had a great weekend. Thanks so much to all of you who came by. Despite the current weather, colder temperatures will be coming. So we've worked out a takeout version of the hachee shepherd's pie! Hachee is a traditional Dutch beef stew. Commonly served with braised red cabbage and mashed potato, we thought we'd layer them for our own take on shepherd's pie. Prepped a whole bunch for this weekend and for our weekly contribution to the Eastview Neighbourhood Com...munity Centre Food Bank. Full menu specials coming tomorrow! We have spots open on the patio Friday and of course, as of Saturday, we can do indoor seating. We are going to stick with how we've been doing it, limiting the seating to one table inside. If you're interested in a spot, email us at [email protected]. More details to come. Have a good week and stay safe!

Emergency fry prep this morning after a busy weekend and special Sunday opening for this glorious weather. Open from 1-5 p.m. Still some seatings available on the patio. Give us a shout if you're interested. Enjoy the day!
