Some things have changed since I last photographed @onemileranch ‘s family. Dena broke her back in a vehicle rollover while pregnant (thanks southern Alberta wind ) shortly after our last family shoot. The seasons are opposite, although beautiful in their own way, just a little bit colder. Sweet little Daisy was born a few months later, perfectly healthy, happy and was most definitely meant to be here as she is such a blessed gift. Some things that haven’t changed is the lo...ve this family radiates, they are literally sunshine on a cloudy day. I mean literally. Piper brought the sass as expected , and we had so much fun together once again. It is truly and honour to be able to capture this families wild journey. I am in awe of their strength, faith, and commitment to their dreams and each other. If you aren’t following them already, do yourself a favour because they put amazing ranch raised meat on your table! It is pleasure to be invited to One Mile Ranch with my camera in hand. Until next time, friends!

Planning for a shoot can be an an overwhelming task! But what if I told you that it doesn't have to be! Would you listen to me? If yes, keep reading! If no, well than have a lovely day and you're welcome to refer back to this post when you need a boost of confidence! Like how could you not, after looking at this spicy little number Here is some of my advice when you are planning for that spectacular, knock it out of the park shoot! 1) Pick a "vibe", or style of shoot you ...want to experiment with. Decide what you want your audience to feel. Is it spicy, and inspiring? Emotional, and insightful? Stick to this while moving forward to the next task. 2) Decide with your model on the outfit. What makes them feel their best, while still achieving the vibe of the shoot? If there is specific product you are showcasing, let them style themselves around that product. Offer advice for colours as per the enviromental season and noted vibe, but let them take the reins on this one. Trust me! 3) Location, location, location. This can, and will make or break your overall outcome and achievement of your vibe! Take note of number 1, and apply it number 3. Moody? Happy and light? Emotional? Spicy cowgirl? Envision your model(s) in this location and take it to account lighting and where the sun will be setting. Make a note of the clothing you are showcasing as per the season you are in, and make it intentional. You take the reins on this one, and find a spot that works with both your camera and your models appearance, skin type, clothing, and vibe! Yep Im going to say vibe a lot 4) Break out of the starting gate! Sometimes just starting is all you need to do to find new inspiration and creativity. Yes, take inspiration from others in the industry but DO NOT COPY for the love of all things holy in photographer land. Take your time, and push yourself out of your comfort zone. You won't know what could come out of it if you don't

Never, and I repeat never ever believe the phrase "We'll be right back," when he has asked you to help him do something out on the ranch. The echoing words, "this will only take a little while" have filtered through generations of ranch wives and still today should invoke sincere distrust in the woman who hears them. Double tap if you agree with this rule!

Couple Posing tips! 3 simple rules I like to keep in mind when posing my couples. 1 Keep them close. Kisses, almost kissing, nose tickles, face rubbing, sniffing, yes sniffing, whispers of sweet nothing, all of it. Do it! ... 2 Movement! This helps relax your couple, opens up opportunities for you to shoot lots of variety, and helps incorporate movement into your beautiful images. If you feel stuck on a pose, switch to a movement or action. I bet you will see something you like about it and it will give you a new pose idea or some redirection for the next shot. 3 Try multiple shots and angles from the same pose by changing up your angle and dimensions of the photo. Shoot father away, come in close, check out some side angels then try turning them around or to the side. Keep the movement going by having them walk out of the pose and away from you! If this was helpful for you, hit that save button See more
