Why do I have one room that’s never the same temperature as the rest of my house? No two homes are exactly alike, and every home has its individual quirks. But there is one complaint that is fairly common among homeowners regardless of the size, shape or location: "Why is there one room that’s never the same temperature as the rest of my house?... Multiple floors/levels Whether it’s a 70s era split-level or a brand-new two-story home, keeping the upper levels the same temperature as the lower levels has always been a challenge. That’s due to the physics of rising heat as well as the challenges of delivering conditioned air through longer sections of ductwork. Ducting/venting issues A long duct run, ductwork traveling through uninsulated areas (like an attic), or not enough return air vents are three typical examples of ducting/venting issues that may not deliver as much heating or cooling as the space requires. Oversized or undersized system Properly sizing a heating and cooling system isn’t an exact science, and when it’s not done right, you can have serious comfort issues. An oversized system will turn on, then shut down quickly leaving some areas still too hot or cold. An undersized system will just run and run and may never make you comfortable Renovations & room additions A home remodel can actually change the effectiveness of your heating and cooling system, especially if walls are added or removed. Adding a room means a need for added heating and cooling capacity, which your system may not be adequately sized to handle. Location and usage A room with southern exposure and lots of windows might generate a lot of extra heat. A finished basement might be cool and clammy. Or a room with computer server and additional heat-generating electronics can add to your home’s comfort needs. What’s the solution? You may be able to overcome some of these issues with fans, portable heaters, window coverings and the like, but finding a more permanent solution may require a call to the indoor comfort experts. Whether it’s creating a zoned system with separate temperature control upstairs and downstairs, redesigning your ductwork, or, in the case of sizing issues, potentially replacing existing equipment, Boss Mechanical can offer a number of solutions for creating a more consistently comfortable indoor environment. #bossmechanical #bossmechanicalinc #customhomes #custom #hvac #toronto #thesix #brampton #etobicoke #oakville #northyork #burlington #hamilton #hamont #homestars #homestarsreviews #readourreviews #halton #georgetown #carrier #airfiltration #airpurification #hrv #erv #humidity #freshair #filters #changefilter #AC #Furnace #googlereviews #getaquote #maintenance #keepcool

Why doesn't my AC cool? Your air conditioning system isn’t magic. However, as you turn down the temperature, it makes the heat and humidity of summer disappear. Ta-da! So, what do you do if your expected blast of arctic air doesn’t appear on command? Here are a few tips to troubleshoot before you pick up the phone that might save you a service call. Check the thermostat... If the AC system fan is running but not blowing cold air, your thermostat might be set on constant fan instead of cooling. Check to see if it’s on cool or auto and adjust if needed. If you have a more sophisticated programmable thermostat, be sure it’s not on vacation mode or setback for warmer temperatures. Check your air filter A dirty air filter can block airflow and reduce cooling to your home. In more extreme cases it can cause the system to shut down completely. If the airflow is weaker than normal or just not as cool as it should be, locate your system’s air filter, turn the system off, inspect the filter and replace it if it’s dirty. Check the outdoor unit If your air conditioner is running but not cooling your home, one issue could be a dirty, clogged or obstructed outdoor unit. Dirt, grass, leaves and other airborne debris can accumulate on the unit’s coil leading to reduced cooling capacity or complete system shut down. Vacuum the coil with a brush attachment or rinse away the debris with a hose. If your system still isn’t cooling, it’s time to call a pro. Check the indoor unit Your central air conditioning system includes an indoor coil and air handler unit; typically either a furnace or a fan coil. Visually inspect the indoor unit for: Frost forming on the copper refrigerant tubing coming from the cabinet Excessive condensate drainage near the indoor unit These are signs that your indoor coil may be frozen or excessively dirty and clogged and it’s time to contact a professional. Undersized System If your AC system keeps you comfortable under normal or moderate conditions but struggles when temperatures become more extreme, it may be undersized for your home. The best way to address sizing issues is to contact a qualified HVAC contractor for an accurate assessment of your home’s cooling needs. Depending on the issue, you may not be able to solve your cooling conundrum yourself. However, understanding what to look for and doing a little troubleshooting on your own can help your HVAC contractor resolve the problem.

Five Tips For Keeping Your Cool when Summer Heats Up Some summers, cooling your home can feel like a full-time job. Even with central air conditioning, there are times when you just can’t seem to keep comfortable without constantly adjusting the thermostat. And when you do, you end up paying in another way when your electric bill arrives. Here are five hacks you can use to efficiently keep your cool this summer. 1. Cooling System Maintenance... One of the first items on your agenda should be keeping your cooling system operating at its best. Check your system’s air filter once a month, and replace it following the filter manufacturer’s recommendations. An annual spring clean and check visit is recommended. 2. Supplement Your AC System with Fans While your central air conditioner might be your first line of defense against the summer heat, you can always supplement with fans. According to energy.gov, using a ceiling fan allows you to set your thermostat 4 degrees warmer without sacrificing comfort. Be sure to turn off the fan when the room isn’t occupied because the fan cools the people, not the space. 3. Window Treatments Window treatments are great for privacy, but they can also help you manage your comfort. Keeping your blinds or shades closed reduces direct sunlight and helps block radiant heat from the window. Investing in insulated shades for additional protection against radiant heat is optimal. 4. Heat Management Keep cool by reducing heat sources. Avoid using your oven use the stove-top (with the hood vent fan on), microwave or grill outside instead. When bathing, turn on the bathroom fan. Add spot ventilation to your laundry room, or better yet, don’t wash your clothes with hot water during the summer. Limit use of electronic devices such as computers, stereos, TVs, the dishwasher, etc. 5. Ventilation During cooler and less humid times, consider turning off the AC system and ventilating your home by simply opening windows. A window fan, a whole-house fan, or using your central AC’s fan-only function can be an effective and efficient solution for cooling during these times. With a little effort, and a few minor lifestyle changes, these hacks could help you lower your utility expenses and stay cooler in the process. How Do I Know If I Should Replace My Air Conditioner? Who doesn't love the summertime? The days get longer, the sun shines brighter and the temperatures get hotter. And when it gets a little TOO hot? Head inside to enjoy cool, refreshing comfort from your trusty old air conditioner. So how do you know when it’s time to replace it? ... Frequent Air Conditioner Repairs: Just like a car, an air conditioning system will require professional maintenance to perform at its best. It might even need to be repaired on occasion. But when those repairs become more frequent and more expensive, contact Boss Mechanical about the cost of a new system versus the cost of a major repair. Rising Energy Bills: According to U.S. Energy Information Administration, more than half of a household’s energy usage, on average, comes from heating and air conditioning. If your utility bills are rising and you haven’t noticed a big change in the weather or your indoor temperature settings, it might be time to have your system inspected by Boss Mechanical. Is Your AC Unit 10 Years Old or More? Unlike fine wine, air conditioners do not get better with age. Replacing an AC unit that is more than ten years old with a new, ENERGY STAR model from the Carrier line of air conditioners might save you up to 20 percent on your cooling or heating costs, according to energystar.gov. The AC System is Running, but It’s Still Hot Inside: Sometimes, an AC system needs a little more time to cool your home, especially when it’s extra hot and humid outside. Other times, there is an underlying mechanical issue that’s causing the issue loss of refrigerant charge, outdoor coil freezing over, or a clogged filter or coil for example. If your system consistently struggles to maintain your comfort, it’s time to contact Boss Mechanical to assess the health of your system. While there is no hard and fast rule that indicates it is time to replace your current AC system, Boss Mechanical can help you assess the state of your current system, provide cost estimates for repairs versus replacing, and provide estimates on future energy savings use with a new, higher efficiency setup so you can make an informed decision that is right for you and your family. #bossmechanical #bossmechanicalinc #customhomes #custom #hvac #toronto #thesix #brampton #oakville #northyork #burlington #hamilton #hamont #homestars #homestarsreviews #readourreviews #halton #georgetown #carrier #airfiltration #airpurification #hrv #erv #humidity #freshair #filters #changefilter #AC #Furnace #googlereviews #getaquote #maintenance
