No matter how well you brush at home, plaque can still build up on your teeth. Over time the plaque hardens and turns into hard deposits called calculus. Calculus are colonies of different bacteria living on your teeth. As calculus is allowed to grow and mature over time, the bacteria creates a hostile environment for your teeth and gums at the same time making it easier for even nastier bacteria to take residence in your mouth. Not only does this affect the appearance of y...our smile it also impacts the health of your gums, bone, teeth, and overall health of your body. Calculus leads to gingivitis and progresses to gum disease (periodontists) leading to loss of teeth, and causes tooth decay. Bacteria residing in the calculus enter your blood stream and circulate throughout your body causing issues with your heart, lungs, brain to name a few. See the link for the Mayo clinics healthy lifestyle page on oral health. https://www.mayoclinic.org//a/in-depth/dental/art-20047475 You won’t be able to remove calculus by brushing or flossing aloneFortunately, we can easily remove plaque, calculus and tartar at your next hygiene appointment! Grinding and acid wear can cause some serious damage to teeth. This patient is only in their 30’s and hasn’t seen a dentist In over 10 years. The process of wear does take years to progress but it does so often with the patient unaware of the occurring changes. The yellow you see on the top photo is the inner layer of the tooth called dentin. The hard protective enamel has been totally worn away. We placed fillings on top of the wear areas to help protect the soft dent...in layer and resist against further rapid wear. Early intervention is cost efficient and saves valuable tooth structure. At Boston dental, we will assess your teeth and let you know your risks for wear from grinding and/or acidic wear and offer solutions to ensure your teeth are well protected for years to come. . . . #BostonDentalSmile #TorontoDentist #SmileMakeover #SmileMore #OralHealthcare #OralHealthTips #BeforeAndAfters #EastYork #Danforth
