WARNING About Releasing Ladybugs When trying to control aphids people buy ladybugs as a biological control mechanism. A ladybug in its adult form is much more interested in breeding and will likely fly away. We advise that you release a Ladybug Larvae. These predators are voracious eaters, trying to consume as many insects as they can to reach adulthood. ... An aphid issue in large trees such as Lindens or Maples can also be an indication of an Ant nest nearby. Ants are very efficient at chasing every other predator away, and keeping the aphids for themselves. This may inhibit the efficacy of releasing a predatory insect in hopes of irradicating aphids. Please note that releasing a ladybug that is not from the Okanagan is introducing an invasive species and can push back our local Ladybugs. Releasing a predator from another part of the planet can often lead to unintended consequences that can be irreversible.
