A FIRST IN NOVA SCOTIA SPORT HISTORY .... In 1993, Melanie Long became the first female to ever play boy's high school hockey in Nova Scotia and to represent he...r school (KCA) in the sport. Her persistence and love of hockey forced the sport governing bodies to re-write the forty-three old handbook and allowed her to play. Melanie Long paved the way for female hockey in our province. Her complete story will be featured in Nova Scotia Women in Sport! See more

HISTORY MADE: The 2019-20 season has been a historic one for players from Nova Scotia. This weekend, a record 32 Nova Scotians were selected at the QMJHL Entry ...Draft. If you include last month's Ontario Hockey League Draft when Pictou County's Landon Sim was picked, 33 players who grew up playing hockey in Nova Scotia heard their names called during this junior hockey draft season. Congrats and good luck to all of our players! We can't wait to see what's next for you all. #nsproud | #QDraft

*IMPORTANT NOTICE: I support the decision by Hockey Canada and enforced by Hockey Nova Scotia to cancel all their sanctioned events. In solidarity with them and concern for the health of our kids the remaining sessions in the March schedule are cancelled. Any participant has the choice to either be issued a pro-rated refund of $45.00 OR you have the option of carrying that $45.00 toward the $125.00 registration for my September sessions (tentatively scheduled for the evening...s of Monday September 7th - Friday September 11th). PLEASE E-MAIL [email protected] to let me know what you prefer to do. I hope to work with all of your families again very soon. Thanks, Josh

DEAR PARENTS: A LETTER FROM THE COACH’S WIFE There’s one thing that makes my husband stand out as a great coach. It’s not his ability to help players polish the...ir strengths; it’s the way he teaches kids to embrace their imperfections. When you bash the coach and the choices they make, you’re making their job harder. #Hockey #Coach #YouthSports https://bit.ly/2MarB0l See more

BERNIE LAWLOR MEMORIAL COACH OF THE MONTH AWARD: We are proud to announce the winners of last month's Bernie Lawlor Memorial Coach of the Month Award. Cape Bret...on West Minor Hockey Association coach Holly MacInnis and South Shore Minor Hockey Association coach Grant Johnston are the latest recipients of this coaching honour. MacInnis, a native of Mabou, N.S., is a Baddeck-based coach with the area’s IP program. Organized and always a positive influence on her young players, one of the first things you notice about MacInnis' practices are the smiles on the faces of those youngsters. With a special emphasis on fun, MacInnis takes great pride in helping those brand new players fall in love with the game. Aside from her volunteer time with her local IP program, she can often be found on the ice with the Novice program as well. The second winner of October’s Bernie Lawlor Coach of the Month Award is Grant Johnston. Originally from the Annapolis Valley, Johnston now calls Bridgewater home. For the past two decades, he has lent his time to developing young minor hockey players and has coached at levels from IP to Major Midget. As an IP coach of more than 30 players with the South Shore Minor Hockey Association this season, Johnston puts an emphasis on learning the basic skills of the game in a fun and supportive environment. Through their contributions to their associations both on and off the ice, Holly and Grant are very deserving recipients of this award. The award is named in memory of Bernie Lawlor, a long-time Hockey Nova Scotia Minor Council regional director for the Halifax zone. It is handed out each month to exceptional teachers of the game who have helped to make our sport better. Hockey Nova Scotia and the Hockey Nova Scotia Minor Council would like to congratulate Holly MacInnis and Grant Johnston on their awards and thank them for their volunteer efforts. https://bit.ly/2KRVL80
