Crab Team, Assemble!! DFO and SSISC are looking for volunteers to help with this important initiative to keep invasive green crabs out of Howe Sound. These things are a menace, but this is a great way to pitch in if you're looking for a way to help. http://ssisc.ca/crabteam
In 2020, the City of Delta was designated a Bee City by Bee City Canada. This makes Delta the 43rd city in Canada and the sixth city in BC with this distinction.... The title of Bee City is awarded to cities that commit to protecting pollinators and their habitats through various actions that align with the Bee City program. Delta has increased the number of its pollinator friendly plants in various gardens throughout the community. The City has also been a long-term funder and supporter of the DF&WT including our Grassland Set-aside Stewardship Program. Set-aside plantings include floral species, which provide important habitat for a wide range of insects including native pollinators. Bees have experienced a significant decline on a global scale and it is important that efforts are taken to protect these pollinators. Becoming a Bee City is a great honour for Delta, and the city aims to work hard to protect the pollinator population. #deltabc #farmsinbc #bcagriculture #bees #pollinators #savethebees

Ever wondered how clams dig under the sand? (I sped the clip up 4x speed, the whole process took about 5 minutes).

Cascade Bird Box Team starts new Barn Owl construction run, only slightly deterred by Covid_19
Did you know that the Barn Owl is listed as Species of Special Concern under Canada’s Species at Risk Act? They can be found in Delta where they live all year... long. Due to the cool winters Barn Owls roost in barns to stay warm. They have very sharp hearing which helps them hunt in total darkness and areas with abundant ground cover. They feed mostly on small mammals which are abundant in Grassland Set-asides. Providing feeding grounds for the endangered Barn Owl is one of the many benefits of our Grassland Set-aside program. Humans of Boundary Bay Regional Park Him: This is our daily walk. So it's become really home to us in the sense of it’s an environment where we're comfortable,... and we always see something different. We’re helping with making nature brochures with Delta Naturalists, which will really be an educational tool for schools and also people who are just coming through for a short visit. The variety of animals that you can see here range from gray whales to coyotes walking through the park. We see deer tracks too. Her: We usually have our cameras and binoculars with us. We do an eBird tally every morning on our walk. eBird is an app. So we've contributed several hundred birds from Boundary Bay Regional Park. The parks have been our salvation during COVID. We live in a small condo with 850 square feet. And we would just go mad if we had to stay in there. Part of a series to give you a glimpse of Metro Vancouver’s regional parks through the eyes of our visitors.
