If you're reading this, it's worth noting that in Quebec things are different. Here, a Power of Attorney alone will STOP being valid once you are incapable (assuming somoene is there to tell the banks you have lost capacity). For someone to represent you during incapacity, you need to have signed a Protection Mandate / Mandate for Incapacity. That document can, and should, also name a Verifier to keep an eye on things. That being said, most general Power of Attorney document...s are ALSO Protection Mandates. If you've got one, take a look and call your notary to make sure it's done right. https://www.cbc.ca//power-of-attorney-seniors-elder-abuse-

This group thinks Canada should put an estate tax on the ultra-wealthy. Fun fact: they identify as being ultra-wealthy millennials themselves --i.e., the future heirs. https://lp.ca/wNeXLA

Some statistics and recommendations by the Chambre des notaires concerning the laws on medically assisted dying. Do you think some of these requests should require a notary?

A Quebec Superior Court judge rules that the provincial and federal laws on medically assisted dying are too restrictive. I expect this will be appealed to the Quebec Court of Appeal, and then that decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada. In the meantime, for those wanting to learn more on the subject, this judgment gives a summary of how the laws developed, profiles by the applicants showing what kind of health circumstances were inadmissible under the laws, and our first look at a judge's analysis of it all. https://www.canlii.org//20/2019qccs3792/2019qccs3792.html

A lot to think about in this judgment out of the Quebec Court of Appeal. Sometimes life is a round peg and the law is a square hole. http://legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/showdoc/cs/CCQ-1991
