We recently fabricated a guard for an access ladder that we had previously made. This safety feature is lockable. Jeff installed it with hinges and also added a chain to prevent the guard from swinging too far and causing damage to the building. The top of the guard is made of steel mesh so the snow and rain can fall right through it instead of building up and making the access to the ladder difficult.

We are refreshing our fleet! Having the right equipment for a welding truck is crucial to getting jobs done. It was time to send our oldest welding truck to retirement and refresh our fleet. The crew took off the welding deck from the old truck then test fitted to the new one. After a few modifications, the deck was installed and the new truck is ready to roll! Umm, I mean ready to work.

Throwback Thursday: We are so happy that the public health restrictions have eased, and finally we can enjoy the local coffee shops and restaurants for a bit longer than pick up an order. While you are staying warm during the polar vortex with a hot cup of coffee at Rocky Mountain Bagel Co., on Railway Avenue, have a look at this beautiful custom living wall, designed by Holly at North Nik Home. It was a pleasure to work with Holly on this exciting project.

Have you heard of the monuments that were placed on the AB-BC border over 100 years ago? Global Raymac Surveying & Engineering carried out a study for the BC-AB Boundary commission to look into cost effective options for restoring the monuments as the original pillars were made out of concrete which started decaying over the decades. In this process, Bow-Cor Welding was asked for advice on recommended materials for durability, cost effectiveness, and for design suggestions.... We worked together with Global Raymac on refining design and selecting materials and finish for optimal durability. Our team fabricated two monuments. These are made out of steel that was hot dip galvanized to make it resistant against rust and the elements of harsh weather. The goal of this project was to find a practical and efficient way for preserving and renewing this visible symbol of the interprovincial boundary while maintaining the historical and physical significance of the monuments.

Who loves skiing? We do! And we are lucky to take our metal fabrication work to the ski resorts as well! Every ski season we help Ski Louise, Sunshine and Norquay get ready for winter operation with lift maintenance and repairs. In the past, we also fabricated aluminum gates for the Nordic Centre and Biathlon Canada for World Cup events. ... We hope you enjoy the amazing skiing conditions and extra daylight this spring!

Throwback Thursday: Texturizer equipment In November, the Town of Canmore announced changes to increase the accessibility of outdoor amenity space including a new ice surface in Three Sisters and rolling & flattening of a network of gravel trails in town. The Streets and Roads crew are experimenting with a Tractor and a ‘’Texturizer’’ this winter as a pilot project. On a recent walk on Cougar Creek Trail, we enjoyed the enhanced texture of the trail surface right after the tractor passed. We think this great addition will benefit all users: walkers, runners, and cyclists alike! Kudos to the Town of Canmore Streets and Roads staff for the amazing work they are doing with winter trail and ice maintenance!

The team spent the last few months fabricating interior and exterior staircases for a new construction apartment building in Banff. The highlight of the last two weeks was the installation of the exterior stairs and railings. It wasn’t an easy task due to the tight space in between the two buildings. We got a large crane to maneuver the stairs into place in the courtyard, which made this operation a lot easier. A more detailed description of this job will be coming soon, until then here is a sneak peak of the installation process.

Check out these neat railings Jeff made for Spring Creek Mountain Village. They got a black powder coat finish not only to make them resilient against weather and use, but it also gives them a great look.
