Last night’s Bowen Island Adventure Film Festival was heartwarming, to say the least. We showcased 11 short films featuring a diversity of outdoor activity all created by local adventurers right here on Bowen Island. The audience participated by casting their ballots for the Festival Favourite and this year’s winner was the submission by Bob Turner with Seasons in the Sound. In his awe-inspiring film, Bob ventured out on foot, in kayak, and open-water swimming to capture a fascinating glimpse of the various wildlife that lives within Howe Sound as experienced through the seasons. Congratulations to Bob for this wonderful achievement of a film! And lucky us, he’s posted it online so we can watch it again. Thanks, Bob!

It took a community builders, bike park designers, the Muni, Vancouver Parks, BICS, BICR, BICF, local businesses, and all the families who fundraised and volunteered their time and efforts to build Bowen’s newest outdoor playground. And now the community gets to revel in the fruits of their labour, the Bowen Island Bike Park. At the 2018 Bowen Island Adventure Film Festival, enjoy a turn on this forested pump track through the lens of the riders as shared by Tom Surtees with Pippa and Emily.

Both Elle Burke and Kiley Redhead have an affinity for being in, on, or near the ocean. Having grown up in Scotland near the sea, Elle has been involved in all sorts of water activities from sailing to skiing to surfing. As a toddler, Kiley was swimming before she could even walk and these days spends as much time as possible at Bowen’s beautiful beaches. When Kiley decided she wanted to get away on a standup paddleboard to explore the west coast of Bowen and camp overnight on a nearby island, Elle said yes without hesitation. They packed up their boards and off they went. Their film entry at the 2018 Bowen Island Adventure Film Festival portrays the simplistic peace of being on the water and whiling away summer evenings by the campfire with friends.
