Sarah and Cheryl @boughandantlerstore have graciously made space for this display and have a selection of shirts available. This piece represents everything I feel about the world today. I stuffed it like a big giant pillow so I can lean against it when I need to. The buttons are my way of acknowledging every little soul found and the journey their loved ones have endured over a magnificent amount of time and space, it felt never ending. A truer representation would fill the... entire space with buttons. Each one gave me great pause as I thought of the journey their loved ones endured without them. Some knowing, some never knowing what happened to their child. As a human it breaks my heart, as a mother it leaves me feeling powerless. With those moments of reflection coupled with a powerful conversation within a sacred group of incredible people, I’m Listening, You Matter came to be. Reconciliation is a culmination of stories and I believe it does eventually include all of us , however every story needs to be told from the very beginning. Those 215 babies is a new beginning for our Country. I don’t want to believe we have forgotten. I don’t want to live in a world without accountability. I would rather think we are still digesting the magnitude of this horror so we can educate ourselves with truth and find our place to help if we can. So this is what I can do. I’m calling it Band of Hope. If you have a chance, stop in the shop and please take a moment of pause too. I’ve known Lucas since he was barely an adult and it was a pleasure to carry his tasty creations in our shop.
