We Remember The Caribou Statue in Bowring Park @cityofstjohns was presented to the park in 1928 as a gift from Major William Howe Green, who had served with the Newfoundland Regiment during WWI. Five other such statues can be found in France and Belgium. When the caribou was unveiled in Bowring Park it was specified that this was not to be considered a memorial like the ones in Europe, but a tribute to the regiment’s loyalty and spirit of comradery. The statue’s erection and location within the park just east of the Bungalow - was supervised by landscape architect Rudolph Cochius who oversaw the construction of Bowring Park and the site of the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial. #WhoWillYouRemember #HonoringVets. #ThankAVet. #RememberTheFallen.#VeteransDay. #ThankYouVeterans.
