@dimasumchenko is one of 4 athletes from BC off to @boxingcanada High Performance Identification Camp. He started this journey through boxing to grow physically and more important, mentally. Putting the gloves on at 4 years old and been keeping them on since his last fight in 2020. He’s ready to get back into the ring despite what the world throws at you, he made sure to stay sharp and prepared for anything to come. Taking it one step at a time to make beautiful British Columbia proud and all the fighters within it! #amateurboxing #boxingcanada #boxingbc

November 19th, 2020 Members of Boxing BC, I wanted to provide another update on the additional restrictions that have come down from the province. Based on this afternoon's announcement all charted Boxing BC clubs are able to stay open for athletes. That being said, we need to be extremely cautious about what activities athletes are allowed to participate in and ensure that everyone in the club maintains a distance of at least six feet at all times. ... Indoor sports can continue but everyone must maintain physical distance. Masks must be worn when entering and leaving the facility Athletes can shadow box, skip and hit the bag but cannot participate in high intensity interval training such as bag drills No spectators are allowed at any times There is absolutely no sparring or focus mitt work allowed Travel into, from or between all health regions is not allowed for any sport activities, training or competition. If you feel comfortable with your current Covid-19 Health and Safety policy and are able to adhere to the above mentioned rules then you are able to keep your gym operational and your athletes can continue with technical training. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns. Ryan O’Shea Boxing BC President [email protected]

Members of Boxing BC, As most of you have already heard, Provincial Health Officials have ordered all dance studios, yoga, studios, martial arts facilities and gymnastics centers to close immediately. I spoke with ViaSport this afternoon and confirmed that Boxing would technically fall under the martial arts classification and for this reason we must insist that all chartered Boxing BC clubs close their doors for open training. Dr. Henry did make it clear that the Ministry of... Health is working with ViaSport-the government’s agency for sports programs- and other partners to quickly develop specific guidance for a return to training. We will continue to communicate with ViaSport and will provide an update to the membership shortly. I want to make it clear that boxing gyms are allowed to remain open for one on one private technical training. If you have any additional questions please don’t hesitate to reach out. Stay safe and hopefully we will be able to return to training shortly. Thanks, Ryan O’Shea President Boxing BC

Notice to all clubs, officials, coaches and athletes, We are quickly approaching the end of the 2020 competitive calendar. With this in mind all members and clubs should be looking to renew their registrations and charters through the Boxing BC website (boxingbc.ca). All recreational and competitive athletes, as well as coaches, officials and clubs must renew before January 1st, 2021 in order to receive insurance coverage and to be able to train and compete in the New Year. W...hile we recognize that there is a lot of uncertainty at present surrounding competition and training it is very important that everyone understands that athletes and coaches are not covered through Sports BC insurance if they do not renew their membership and club charter. Boxing BC has reduced the club charter fees for 2021 to $250.00 to help offset some of the costs incurred by clubs during these challenging times. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

To the clubs of Boxing BC, I would like to provide an update to the previous email that was sent out regarding the provincial health order and gym closures. We have had several calls and emails since the order was released and we are excited to let all clubs in the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions know that they can open their clubs for technical training. We have confirmed that all chartered Boxing BC clubs are able to allow their competitive and rec member...s to participate in technical training (skipping, shadow boxing and bag work) as long as they maintain a distance of at least six feet from other participants at all times. There is still no sparring, focus mitt work, competition, or travel allowed in these health regions for the time being but all athletes can safely return to technical training. This is an evolving situation and we will continue to update the membership and clubs over the coming weeks. In the meantime, you are allowed to safely return to technical training. We ask that all gyms and head coaches update their Covid-19 training plans to reflect the mandatory six feet training distance at all times. If you are running any non Boxing BC fitness and conditioning programs through your gym please contact Dave Brett (1st VP) for an update on the required protocols and procedures. The aforementioned rules and allowances only apply to registered Boxing BC members/clubs. You will need additional approval if you are running non Boxing BC training and fitness programs out of your club and Dave will be able to assist you with further direction. Thanks for your ongoing support and patience, Ryan O'Shea Boxing BC President
