Boyo 31.03.2021

This is a time-Lapse painting video for the 13th song in Boyo, Massive Air. The painting, singing and song writing were done by Adam Kirk. The instrumentation and orchestration were done by Wesley Lipischak. This was a fourty nine minute painting sped up to fit within a two minute and eleven second song. This song is one of the ones written for the original 2006 production when I was a teenager. The lyrics of this song have kept me going and been a philososophy I have lived b...y all my adult life. Hearing it in glorious fully orchestrated quality like this warms my cold artist's heart. The style of this song is influenced very much by the music from Sonic Adventure 1 & 2. In the story, this song is the only appearance of Mano, Boyo's late brother who shows up as a ghost to offer him some radical riffs and inspiring encouragement in his darkest hour. Massive Air Lyrics: When the odds aren't in your favour When you're almost down and out When all you've got left is your saber But your mind is full of doubt When there's nowhere left to run to And there's nowhere left to hide There's only one thing that can save you And that's the power that's inside You can make it If you want to Once you've got that attitude You're already half way there Find that something To hold onto And just keep pushing, pushing, pushing 'Til you've got that massive air Well, I don't know where I'm going All I know is where I've been And I don't know what I'm looking for But I know I've got to win Let me see your sword spin Show me your special move! Come on and bring it on, man Come on and do what you can Power it up right where you stand When you feel the rush you can't come down Whoa whoa whoa Whoa whoa whoa You can make it If you want to Once you've got that attitude You're already half way there Find that something To hold onto And just keep pushing, pushing, pushing Pushing, pushing, pushing Pushing, pushing, pushing 'Til you've got that massive air

Work in progress of Boyo’s house. Started with a rough digital storyboard sketch and then began the acrylic painting version. I will post the finished piece when it is ready. Here is my face in the meantime.

I had another interview with Jamie for the documentary and she said the nicest thing. She told me that when people ask about what her project is about, she tells them: "This guy has been working on the same story for twenty years, and each iteration has progressed in tandem with his personal growth." That about sums it up.

This is the Uncle Bobzin bit of song 2 Akimbo from the Boyo musical. I wrote this bit with a dream in my heart that one day "Weird Al" Yankovic would play this role. Uncle Bobzin is a whimsical elf who sings this bit, plus another little bit in an act 2 song and then he gets killed by an orc with a large canoe paddle.

Song 1: Prologue Written by Adam Kirk Orchestrated by Wesley Lipischak The Father Sword stands with its blade deep in the centre of a snowy crater. Snow is billowing all around. A silhouetted figure in a winter coat can just be made out standing at the edge of the crater. He is Abe Nida, and he is a key player in a mystery that will be revealed by the end of this story. The hauntingly beautiful voice we hear is that of the Everlasting Flame herself, the Goddess of the land of... Fafu, Karma. The image of this snowy scene fades away and we find ourselves flying over the Forest Elf Village as the sun rises. Wooden structures are built into massive trees, and on the platform at the top of the tallest tree that grows from the roof of the elven palace; a large group of elves are assembled before the Great Father Elf for a very important gathering. Mano, the legendary Sworn Protector of the Father Sword, has fallen in battle against the evil wizard, Mysterioso. A new Sworn Protector must now be chosen. Lyrics: KARMA In the land of Fafu The Everlasting Flame That glorious goddess Praise be to her name She is called Karma AVITAL Come gather round, children I’ll tell you a tale A story that begins long ago When we elves of the forest Came out of the North With no memory of what came before ELVEN CHOIR No memory of what came before? AVITAL Mysterioso You all know that name His great evil power still grows For one thousand years This wizard has laid claim To the lands North of The Great Salt Plain ELVEN CHOIR All he brings is pain AVITAL We fought back and resisted And yet he persisted To hurt, curse and haunt all we love As you know our brave hero An elf known as Mano Went to slay him with The Father Sword ELVEN CHOIR Sworn Protector of The Father Sword AKIMBO I’ll never forget Mano Mano was my lover BOYO I want to be like Mano Mano was my brother AVITAL Alas, poor Mano Mano was my son Despite all his might He fell in the fight He was slain by Mysterioso ELVEN CHOIR Rest now, we loved thee, Mano AVITAL The Sworn Protector of The Father Sword The chosen elf warrior strong brave and bold Mano fulfilled this role And though he is gone We still must press on Someone must take up The Sword ELVEN CHOIR Sworn Protector of The Father Sword

Just when I think I'm done writing this show, I get another idea of how to make it better and end up adding another song, or changing the order of songs, or making a change in one place that has a ripple effect across other songs that must now also be changed to reflect those changes. I once again believe that I am done editing the script. This is the song list as it exists now. The whole show has been written and edited extensively. I can't wait for all of these tracks to be recorded and orchestrated and readily available on spotify for the world to listen to.

Akimbo! She is such a cool character and set up to seem like she might be the main protagonist, but she is killed halfway through act 1. Akimbo's death is a catalyst for Boyo and Star to finish the journey she started. It hurts to have a great character with a super badass theme song die so early, but like Boromir and Ned Stark demonstrate, it adds emotional weight to the story and lets the audience know there are no character shields to have a lead character die in the first act.

I have decided it is time to share a demo of the 2nd song in the show. I really enjoy the saxophone and guitar intro to this song.
