For all Boyuan Children's Home Parents & School Age students past and present, Please be advised that in the event there is a strike and the DSBN decides to close their doors we do have limited spaces available at our centre for School Agers (4-6 years) available. Please contact Holly Rowe (Supervisor) to make those arrangements. DSBN Post:... October 4, 2019 - Job Action Update In the event of a province-wide strike by CUPE members, the DSBN will have no choice but to close all schools and cancel transportation. Safety is our number one priority and without CUPE members in schools we would not be able to maintain a safe environment. We encourage parents to begin making alternate child care arrangements for their children. In the event of a strike: - All schools will be closed for instructional purposes for the duration of the strike - EarlyON Centres will be open - For information on school-based child care, please contact your provider for details - All non-CUPE staff will report to work as normal - All school rental permits will be cancelled - Night school credit courses will continue to operate - eLearning courses will continue Bargaining is expected to continue on Friday. If a deal is reached and there is no strike, schools will be open as usual on Monday. This is a province-wide job action and must be resolved at that level. Boyuan Child Care Centre features a full gymnasium, a classroom size block room and a full library with smart boards! These wonderful spaces have been captivating for the children, during these frigid temperatures!

Safety Tips, for children in the cold winter weather. In General Children shouldnt play outside alone. Establish a buddy system with one or more friends and have them look out for one another. Children younger than 8 years of age should always be supervised outside. Consider keeping them indoors whenever the temperature or the wind chill is reported to be -27C (-16F) or lower. At these temperatures, exposed skin will begin to f...reeze. Never send children outside unsupervised in extreme weather conditions such as snowstorms. Check often to see that your child is warm and dry. Younger children should take regular breaks and come inside for a warm drink. Help children choose play areas with a warm shelter nearby (e.g., near home or a friends home). Apply sunscreen to exposed skin, even when its cloudy. Watch for danger signs. Signs of frostbite are pale, grey or blistered skin on the fingers, ears, nose, and toes. If you think your child has frostbite bring the child indoors and put the affected area in warm (not hot) water. Signs of hypothermia are shivering, slurred speech, and unusual clumsiness. If you think your child has hypothermia call 9-1-1 immediately. Children should wear helmets when snowboarding, skiing, sledding or playing ice hockey. And to avoid injuries, teach children how to do the activity safely. Clothing If your childs feet and hands are warm, what they are wearing is usually good. If your child is dressed too warm, she could sweat and feel colder when she stops playing. Dress your child in layers of clothing that can be put on and taken off easily. Infants being pulled in a sled need extra bundling. Because they arent moving, they cant generate body heat the way a playing child can. Wear a hat because a lot of body heat is lost through the head. Keep ears covered at all times to prevent frostbite. Wear mittens instead of gloves so that fingers can be bunched together for warmth. Wear warm, waterproof boots that are roomy enough for an extra pair of socks and to wiggle toes. In younger children, remove drawstrings from clothing that could catch on climbing or play equipment. Use Velcro or other snaps instead. Use a neck warmer instead of a scarf, and mitten clips instead of a string to prevent choking. Remove wet clothing and boots immediately after playing. See more

Thank you, to our friend Colleen Costa-Messer, who donated and set up this fabulous play structure! The children are playing on it non-stop! We love to hear their stories as their imagination runs wild, to the ocean, lakes and rivers! And all the creatures they encounter and how they survive when they jump in the water! Bravo Colleen!
