Brackish Biomechanical Bracing 28.10.2021

In February 2020 as the pandemic was starting we were contacted by some people with a very exciting offer. They wanted us to make them real, usable leg braces from the late 1800s for a main character for an up coming TV show. Tonight at 11 on CTV SciFi channel it will final air. WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT. https://youtu.be/HIqjl8njVYw

Our friends Cher Smith and Dr. Kirby at the Nova Scotia Rehab Centre are in the news for their work on advocating for and teaching wheelchair skills! Did you know that Brackish makes the spotter straps that are used in the courses that Cher and Dr. Kirby teach, through the wheelchair skills program? Spotter straps are held by a spotter, and the other end attaches to the underside of the wheelchair. They allow the user to find their balance when they pop their caster wheels up off the ground, allowing them to safely learn how to navigate obstacles like curbs. https://www.cbc.ca//wheelchair-rehab-training-lack-1.60788

One more step closer: - to better protection against a covid infection - to better protection for my patients - to seeing my family again (1.5 years and counting)... - to meeting my baby nephew for the first time - seeing friends who live outside of Nova Scotia - to hearing live music again - to teaching another class at Gaspereau Valley Fibres - to having students in the clinic Here's to being a modern(a) woman!

We are echoing War Amps' statement on the problematic portrayal of limb difference/amputation as an evil or grotesque attribute of a character. Please, find a different way to identify your villains. This is as tired and backwards as the movies that cast overweight actors as being lazy and undesirable. Do better, and quit ruining my favourite childhood books. #limbdifference #amputation #waramps #disabilityjustice #certifiedorthotist #registeredtechnician

Today is the day! E-Mag trial! E-Mag trial! This is the trial fit device that is used to show a prospective KAFO user how the stance control function works and feels. The definitive device looks sleek, not bulky and busy-looking like the trial tool. ;-) #annapolisvalley #kentville #certifiedorthotist #registeredtechnician #customKAFO #ottobock

E-mag stance control trial is happening this week! This class of KAFOs use various mechanisms to lock and unlock the knee as the person walks. When they weight bear on the leg, the knee is locked straight. When their heel lifts and their leg heads into "swing phase", the knee releases. This particular stance control device uses thigh tilt and a solenoid switch to lock and unlock the knee.
