Celebrating the holidays during lockdown, in close quarters with others can be a great opportunity for bonding and quality time. It can also bring out a lot of conflict. This is one of my Real Dads (formerly known as Super Dads) show I did last year. Although things have changed a lot since last year, the strategies are still absolutely valuable. #covidchristmas2020 #covidchristmas #Holidays2020 #holidayconflict #conflictresolution #conflictmanagement #conflict #Holidays #hol...iday #psychologistsofinstagram #psychology #psychologist #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #therapy #therapyworks #familycounseling #familytherapy #familytherapist https://www.facebook.com/1257894557572060/videos/2604272639626738

Identifying our emotional triggers and talking about them is an important self regulation skill. It can also help us feel more connected to others. This comes from the Gottman Institute, as part of the Aftermath of a Regrettable Incident couples strategy. #gottman #relationship #triggers #selfregulation #emotionalregulation #couplesgoals #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #couplestherapy #couplestherapist #psychology #psychologist #psychologistsofinstagram #couplescounselling #therapy #therapist

The circles of control and influence. When faced with stressful life experiences, it can help to reflect on three things: 1. What we have control over (the inner circle): ourselves, our decisions and behaviors, etc. 2. What we can influence (the outer circle): e.g., by changing how we approach others we can influence more positive interactions.... 3. All the things we have no control or influence over (which is, most things): other people, COVID restrictions, the weather, etc. It helps to accept what we can't control and focus on what we have control over, and areas that we may be able to influence change by being a positive role model. #mentalhealthawareness #acceptance #rolemodel #psychologist #psychologistsofinstagram #therapyworks

Grief is a complicated process, full of many entangled emotions. Grounding helps us stay present in the moment and engaged in our physical senses. This is my favorite definition of passion. What are you passionate about? Some things I'm passionate about: my kids, my wife, my family, being a dad, my job. #passionate #passionproject #vitality #benevolence #meaning #meaningoflife #meaningfullife #empowerment

Awareness of our negative beliefs and replacing them with more accurate and positive ones, is a useful skill for feeling better. Do you find yourself believing any of the statements on the left? If so, try replacing them with ones on the right. #positiveaffirmations #cbtworks #cognitivebehavioraltherapy #cognition

Happy Halloween! This year, some families will be enjoying some scary movies rather than handing out candy or trick or treating this year. Although my kids and I will be trick or treating, it got me thinking about the movies that I loved as a kid, and I've watched with my kids, and the ones I really want to watch with them when they get a little older. I'm grateful that they've enjoyed Karate Kid, the Princess Bride, Goonies, and Ghostbusters. I can't wait to watch Predator, ...the Lost Boys, and the Shining with them, just to name a few. I love living vicariously through them; to see the movies that had a special place in my heart through their eyes. To laugh at the places I laughed, be thrilled at the places I've been thrilled. For those of you who have kids, what favorite movies from your childhood have you watched with them? Which ones are you eagerly waiting for them to get old enough to watch? #parentfun #childhoodmemories #favoritemovie #dadfun https://www.dadsuggests.com//the-25-movies-im-most-excited
