For almost a year, Rebecca Shea, HIRO Night Facilitator, has shown an unwavering commitment to get a wheelchair swing installed at Gage Park - because everyone deserves to have fun at the park! We are filled with excitement to announce her hard work, dedication and passion produced an incredible result the wheelchair swing is now installed! The model the city chose is from a wonderful family owned business called KSL designs, located in Brantford. It looks amazing. I am s...o excited for the community to be able to use this swing but right now playground equipment remains closed. I hope everyone is staying safe. I would like to thank everyone who donated, shared or supported in any way. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the city staff who helped with the approval, planning and construction of the swing as well as Councillor Nrinder Nann for using part of her budget to assist with the cost. This would not have been possible without all of you. Rebecca Shea. See more

Together, we can help slow the spread of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing and proper hand hygiene. Let's all do our part!

RE: COVID-19 At HIRO, we always take hand hygiene very seriously because we want to help keep everyone as healthy as possible. Right now, there is a new virus in the world called COVID-19 and it is spreading quickly. We want to do our part to keep our clients and those in our community healthy and to help slow down the spread of the illness so we are making some temporary changes until it is safe for us to meet again:... Visitors are welcome to connect with clients by phone or video conference; but not in person; Group services is closed; Residential outings are cancelled, unless medically necessary; Outreach clients will connect with staff by phone instead of in person; No new admissions to all HIRO services. HIRO CLIENTS: If you have travelled out of the country or have been exposed to someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19, please speak with staff by phone about when you can return to service. At this time, there are many other ways to continue to work on your rehabilitation goals, so please contact HIRO staff for great ideas. Thank you for your understanding. Together we will do our very best to keep people healthy and safe! For more information about COVID-19 in Ontario, visit: https://www.ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus

A wheelchair swing is on its way to Gage Park! Thanks to Rebecca Shea, HIRO Night Facilitator, who spearheaded the efforts back in August by launching an online fundraising campaign. In November, the city's public works committee agreed to provide $50,000 for the special amenity. As of today, all equipment has been purchased and the construction is set to start this May!... A stunning number of people experiencing homelessness have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Watching the February snow fall is a beautiful sight, but it can also be a reminder that winter means many things to different people. For some people, this can be a reminder of their solitude and disconnection from others and present further hesitation to leave the home, both mentally and physically. It is with the support of one of our donors that we are able to provide bus passes for our clients in the Norfolk region to help decrease isolation in this rural community. Tha...nk you to NETRA (Norfolk Equestrian Trial Riders Association) for your generous gift to help increase socialization, support rehabilitation goals and provide a means to connect our clients with the agency and the community outside of their home. NETRAs donation was raised from a fundraising event this past summer, which featured a guided tour on horseback, teaching participants control and various maneuvers to avoid obstacles that may be encountered during trial riding. Somerleigh, Case Facilitator at HIRO, joined the event and provided information to riders on head injuries, and discussed the importance of protecting your head while riding. For more information on NETRA and their upcoming events, visit their FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NETRA2013/
