THE STORY Carlos Pimentel became a Board Member of Brain Matters Brain Cancer Charity after losing his brother John to a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) at only 52 years old. At the time, his family learned very quickly how malevolent and insidious this type of cancer was, leaving them with very few treatment options and very little time. The average life expectancy for this type of tumour is 15-18 months. So on February 22, 2018, Carlos set out with his backpack and camera in hand, and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in honour of his late brother’s life and memory. Inspired by his brother’s courageous and fearless life, Carlos’ difficult and arduous trek to reach the summit required physical, mental and spiritual strength. For this reason, Carlos dedicated his climb (and this most beautifully captured moment), to everyone that has been affected by brain cancer. WHY BRAIN CANCER NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT Brain cancer is one of the deadliest and most underfunded types of cancer, receiving less than 3% of funding from the Canadian government.
