Today is #givingtuesday Today we celebrate the power of #generosity. Today we #support causes that matters to us.... BRAIN CANCER MATTERS TO US. 15-18 MONTHS is the average life expectancy for a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) diagnosis, the most aggressive primary malignant brain tumour. 15 YEARS since the last brain cancer breakthrough. 3% is the percentage of funding The Government of Canada invested in brain cancer research in 2017. We need to do better. That is why we started Brain Matters Brain Cancer Charity. In less than 5 years our charity has raised over $500,000. 100% of these funds have gone towards facilitating the latest innovations in neurosurgical care and promising treatments for brain cancer. A FUTURE WITHOUT BRAIN CANCER IS POSSIBLE!!! 100% of all proceeds from the sale of this art will be directed to groundbreaking brain cancer treatment and technology. Click on link in bio to find out the story behind the photo or continue reading.... THE STORY Carlos Pimentel became a Board Member of Brain Matters Brain Cancer Charity after losing his brother John to a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) at only 52 years old. At the time, his family learned very quickly how malevolent and insidious this type of cancer was, leaving them with very few treatment options and very little time. The average life expectancy for this type of tumour is 15-18 months. So on February 22, 2018, Carlos set out with his backpack and camera in hand, and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in honour of his late brother’s life and memory. Inspired by his brother’s courageous and fearless life, Carlos’ difficult and arduous trek to reach the summit required physical, mental and spiritual strength. For this reason, Carlos dedicated his climb (and this most beautifully captured moment), to everyone that has been affected by brain cancer. WHY BRAIN CANCER NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT Brain cancer is one of the deadliest and most underfunded types of cancer, receiving less than 3% of funding from the Canadian government. The last breakthrough for brain cancer was in 2005. "Now I’d be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one. There were some good days but a lot of not-so-good days. I joked with friends that the cancer won’t kill me, the chemo treatments will. There were moments of great pain, days when certain bodily functions no longer functioned and sudden, massive attacks of great depression that made me wonder if it really was worth fighting on. But I brushed that aside quickly because that would have been a massive betrayal - a bet...rayal of my wife and soulmate, Jean, who has given her all to help me survive. It would have been a betrayal of other cancer patients who have looked to me as an inspiration and a cheerleader of sorts, of the value of living and hope, of my faith in God and the millions of prayers that have been said on my behalf." - Alex Trebek #RIP #cancer #alextrebek #gooddays #baddays #hope #strength #fight #perserverance #positivity
