Here are 3 Simple Steps for Scar Management: 1. Massage The Scar- once the pain is manageable massaging the scar as frequently as possible will help to reduce thickness and lumpiness of the scar. 2. Protect From The Sun: during the first 6-12 months it is important to protect the scar from sun exposure. Excessive sun... exposure can lead to increased pigment of the scar tissue. You can protect your scar(s) by wearing protective clothing or using a sunscreen with greater than 30 SPF. 3. Scar Pads and/or Gel- Scar Pads help to soften, smooth, flatten and reduce the size of scars. They should not be applied to open wounds. Scar Gel (vivier Scar Gel sold in office) is an effective product used to reduce the appearance of a scar especially long term.
