Covid 19 update In these unprecedented times, we are trying to keep perspective on the most important things, and at the top of that list is the health and sa...fety of our staff, our clients, and ourselves. With this in mind, and in line with provincial and federal directives, we have decided to take the precaution of closing our office to the public effective immediately. While we have no knowledge of anyone in our firm having been exposed to the virus, we are taking the better safe than sorry approach by implementing this measure. If you had an appointment set up to attend our office, please consider it cancelled and we will work on re-scheduling to a more appropriate time. As of this moment, we can’t tell you when that will be, but we will be in touch as things unfold and as more information becomes available. On a somewhat positive note, we have been given some relief for income tax deadlines both federally and provincially as noted below, which does reduce the urgency of most of our work. Businesses will be able to defer payment of any income tax amounts until September 1, 2020. This deferral applies to tax balances and instalments that are owing on or after March 18, 2020 and before September 2020. These amounts will not be subject to interest or penalties during this period. This payment relief applies only to income tax payments, and does not apply to other payments such as GST/HST and employer payroll remittances. Should you want to get your personal or corporate information into our office, understanding that it will not be addressed as quickly as it would under normal circumstances, we would invite you to upload it to our website, as suggested in our previous communication, at the link below: https://schwabco.ca/share-your-files/ If this is not an option we also have a mail slot at the front door to our office. There may be staff at the front desk, but we request you not try to enter the office, as their safety, as well as yours, is important to us. Just found out there is a new scam out there where people receive a text supposedly from CRA. Telling then they owe back taxes. Just so your aware CRA does not text so please do not respond.

If CRA ever calls you they will give you an agent ID number and identify themselves. They don't threaten you with arrest or anything of the sorts. Always ask them questions they should know prior to you giving any sort of information to them. I always like to ask them who filed the tax return last year?... What is my spouses full legal name? Where did I work last year and how much did I make? Do I have kids if so what are there names? If in doubt hang up and phone the information hotline and speak to a representative or call myself and I can handle it for you. Thank you.
