Final bed prep for the year. In our area the never ending rain of the West Coast and our clay soil makes getting into the field in the spring difficult (more like impossible and very disheartening)... See our posts from the spring. . . So we are testing out a few strategies, including raising the beds now and protecting the beds with cover crop and tarps over the winter. We are also upping our drainage game to improve getting water off the site as fast as possible. .... . Still lots of work before we are done for the season, but we are getting there! . . #farming #bravechildfarm #farmtotable #fall See more

Learned a new way to use red Japanese shiso (perilla). Shiso vinegar! Super stoked to try different versions out. So far we've made it as a syrup with rice vinegar and apple vinegar. So refreshing with soda (courtesy of our soda stream). Can't wait to try it out in a salad dressing, or maybe as a dip for salad rolls? The colour that comes out is amazing.
