Promises made to self I haven't been following through with my promised Facebook posts. Promised? Who did I promise? Myself, that’s who. I made a promise to myself I would do regular FB posts. It was to become a priority. It didn’t happen. Or it hasn’t happened yet. I find it’s sometimes so easy to not follow through on promises made to myself. I would never back out of promises I have made to others friends, family, work. But somehow those promises made to myself can... make it to the perennial back burner. Is it easy to just say I’ll do it later, or I’m not motivated right now? I can always find an excuse. You may have used them yourself. Would I use those reasons to get out of a promise made to a friend? NO I never feel proud when it happens. It’s always a letdown and no matter what excuse(s) I use; it never makes me feel any better. There have been some sleepless nights due to broken self-promises. So why do we back out of promises made to ourselves? Is it easier because you only have to answer to yourself? So here I am doing one FaceBook post. I decided to treat myself like I would a friend or a work commitment. Just do it and feel better afterward. "You may never feel like doing it - so do it now." Treating yourself as a good friend is a form of self-compassion. The promises made to yourself are just as important as those made to others. And when those times happen when you don’t follow through on a self-promises, offer up some grace. Be kind to yourself and do what you can. This post is me doing what I can and starting to keep a promise made to a friend - ME. See more
