Break Complacency with Lauren Hope-Cleveland 31.03.2021

Do you spend time looking and planning the month ahead? Do you write down your goals and then schedule the actions that will get you closer to that goal? . Sometime during the last week of the month - this month it's March 29th from 9-11am (see what I did there - scheduled it in - like an appt with myself) I have dedicated this time - so that I can make the most of my time in April. . Every month is a little different because I am married... to a police officer! So evenings and weekends are necessarily where we are able to fit in time for us as a couple or for family time! Here's how I organize the month. 1. Put in the shifts (my husband works 2 days and 2 nights) The first day after the last night - we don't make any plans. The schedule looks like this DDNNR (day, day, night, night, rest) If I don't put the rest day there - I forget! And by plans - I mean like anything that would have him be social! 2. Then I schedule all the priorities. Date nights, time with my kids, time with friends and family, workouts, workshops (that I teach), kids activities, and my business. I also add in special days that are happening in the month. Birthdays, Anniversaries, and such! **By now the calendar is pretty full** And there always seems to be some conflict. But when I map it out this far in advance I can anticipate and prepare for those things. 3. Now you can add in all those other little things. My calendar always looks insane but something that I also like to do - is figuring out how much time each task will take me. So although it looks very full - some of the tasks are super small but if I don't write them down then I will forget. I also like to "batch' things. So, if I have to go to the grocery store, get a birthday present, pick up dry cleaning, and take the dog in for a groom - I try to do that all at once. Check out the blog this week for more tips. Stay in your lane! . Gosh I have heard this a 1000 times, and I have said it 5000 times. It is easy to compare ourselves to others - especially in business world. I hear it all the time, "we started our businesses at the same time - and she is so much further ahead than me" "She is using that system, should I be doing that?" "I just keeping see all their posts and they are doing so good, and I am struggling" You can't compare your journey! You are... stuck and annoyed because you have gotten out of your own lane. GET BACK IN YOUR LANE! If you spend all your time worried about what others are doing - you can't possibly concentrate on what you are doing. Listen: I have been there! And it sucks - and it is tough to get out of the cycle. I have to share something cool with you! If you follow me or work with you me - you will know that I love all things personal development. The area that I was sucking at massively was spirituality. I actually believed that I could eliminate this piece of the pie because told myself "I am just not spiritual". That is what we call "resisting". It doesn't matter what you believe in - you are always putting things out there. I am sure that you have heard of t...he laws - the law of attraction. Or the term MANIFESTING. When I started on the journey to find my spirituality - a friend introduced me to Gabrielle Bernstein. She has a bunch of books, course, workshops, and challenges that ease you into the notion. I picked up the book - The Universe has your Back by Gabby, and instantly began to notice how resistant I was to spirituality. As I began working through the exercises to increase my awareness, I began to notice little things around me that were giving me signs. One of the exercises in the book - is to ask the universe for a sign? You decide what the sign is. Mine is a frog. Not something that you see often, but that is what came to me at the time. It can be a sequence of numbers, a phrase, a song...you decide. When you ask the universe to show you the sign to confirm your path - you let go of control and wait for the sign. Not getting the sign is also a sign. . This skeptic gets her sign every single time she has asked for it. I ask for it to be shown to me within 48 hours and then I walk away _ I let the universe do it's thing. One time is was an actually frog jumping up on my friends deck during a tarot card reading, one time is was a wall hanging in a shop, one time it was a meme that friend sent me, and the most recent time I was scrolling through Facebook - and there it was - an acquaintance showing off her sons new pet! Being the spouse of a first responder and working with numerous first responder spouses in a coaching role has lit a fire to ensure that the people that love and hold our hero’s get the services, community, and resources that will assist in navigating this unique lifestyle!

If you missed it yesterday I talked about sleep. I'm going to drive home the sleep thing again today! . Sleep is the key to happiness. Think about the times you have waddled through the day when you did not get enough sleep. Barking, nagging, and being angry at everything and everyone. . I am the wife of a police officer, and I do my best to keep the kids quiet while he is sleeping, not to book things on his first day off, and to ensure that he has... the ability to go for a nap if he needs it. It's not always perfect - my kids were home being schooled by me - and that was not fun with a sleeping spouse. Here's what I know - we are better as individuals, as a couple, and as a family when we all get enough sleep. Let's talk about sleep - shall we? . . The craziest time in my life, and the most fucked up time in my life was when I was working as a Corrections officer #correctionsofficer taking a ton of overtime and working mostly night shifts. Shifts are the worst for sleep! I had no idea that my sleep deprivation would create under chaos in all areas of my life. I would tell myself "you don't need sleep" - "sleep is for the weak" - "I'll sleep when I am dead..." - turns out you need sleep to be a relatively sane human being. I wasn't sleeping because I was stressed - and I was stressed because I was not sleeping. I was in the crazy cycle and I just could not get it under control. . . One of the things that I have learnt through my personal development journey is that I have to prepare myself for sleep. You know like the routine you have created for you kids - bath, snack, teeth, book, bed. Adults need this too. Prepare the mind to rest. It doesn't matter what it looks like for you - come up with a routine that tells your brain "oh, we are getting ready to go to bed now". This starts the secretion of the sleep hormones so that you don't have to fight with yourself once you lay down to start the sleep process. . I always recommend that you track your sleep for 30 days. There are some great apps out there that will help you with this - learn your ideal go to bed time, optimal wake up time, how many REM cycles you complete? Most people have no idea what is optimal for them. Sleep too much you suffer - sleep too little you suffer. Why suffer when you could figure it out in 30 days and be living with a ton less stress? .
