Great results from our Lethbridge and District Music and Speech Arts Festival (previously known as the Kiwanis Festival)! Six of my students participated in the online piano competition: Two won first place, four won second! ... Well done everyone!

This weekend is the deadline for everyone to record and send in their performances to the Festival Committee. Good luck everyone! You'e all worked very hard!

I've just started playing jazz! Is it ever fun! My goal in 8 weeks is to be able to play Autumn Leaves by Johnny Mercer and to memorize 8 standard chord progressions in several different keys. I should have done this years ago!

Welcome to everyone visiting my page! It's been a long time in the making (as you can see from my last post in 2017), but I've finally decided to go live! As Covid continually takes its toll on us all, the arts are what so many of us turn to for escape, relief or just plain enjoyment to help pass the time in isolation. I, for one, have turned to the study (and soon practice) of composition, a little bit of improv, and a lot more playing to enrich this otherwise very small... world I must currently live in. While I would love to get back on the road and visit my students in person, I have set up a robust schedule online for the time being. I am always open to new converts if anyone is interested in the piano. Like many of us right now, I have lots of time on my hands! Thanks to my husband, Vance, for being such good company while we wait for this all to end! And thanks to Henry, our doggie, who keeps us laughing and reminding us what's really important. See more

To my students: Formerly the Kiwanis Festival, The Lethbridge and District Music and Speech Arts Festival is coming up soon. It's a good opportunity to hear some encouraging words from someone other than me - and if this is your first time performing there is absolutely no pressure. Everything is online. You can record yourself as many times as you need, and then send in your best recording. For those who are interested in playing, the registration deadline is February ...15th, and the video submission deadline is March 15th. www.lethmsf.org

This year I went to Atlanta, Georgia - more precisely - an area just north of Atlanta called Roswell. How utterly beautiful and clean it is! This is the Smith Plantation Home, one of three historic homes open for all to tour. Lots of information on social history. I didnt make the Martin Luther Museum this time, but I'll be back in a couple of years.

Congratulations to all of my students who completed their exams this spring. Now you can breathe a sigh of relief! Enjoy your break!
