Debt. Housing prices. Education costs. Low wages. Income inequality. The gap between rich and poor continues to grow wider. Canadians MAKE more, but, also OWE more than ever. What’s needed? Education on the money game. I had no idea about this topic growing up. In fact, I developed a strong Ostrich Syndrome to the conversation about money because of the shame I felt not having much of it. Like politics, religion, or your feelings, you likely didn’t grow up talking about mon...ey. I’ve paid back $44K in student loan money for a useless degree. I’ve been saddled by credit card debt. I’ve worked in an industry that’s slowing choking out the middle class musician. Then, I got educated. I learned about all the financial mistakes I made and developed a passion for helping others not to make the same ones. I sit down with people every week who feel the same struggle and I can sympathize with the frustration and shame of never feeling like you’re getting ahead. If the bank is selling us debt in the form of a credit card at 18-22%, a line of credit at 6-10%, a mortgage at 2.5-5%, insurance that covers the bank and not our family, and a monthly user fee, then turning around and offering us a High Interest savings account, a TFSA and GIC at 0.5-4%, it’s no wonder most Canadians are never getting ahead. The math doesn’t work in our favour. I’m not bashing banks. Banks know how to make money! It’s a brilliant business model. However, The current financial climate of rising debt and income inequality requires a better understanding of the game. You can rant and rave all you want about politics and taxes, but there are things you can be doing to improve your situation RIGHT NOW that don’t require an angry political FB rant or blind acceptance of the system. They just require sitting down with a financial professional that specializes in education. Learn how to attack your debt quicker, pay far less taxes, leverage your savings and get your money working harder for you. That’s what I’m up to these days. Engaging people in this conversation. Just like mental health, let’s not keep perpetuating this conversation as taboo or embarrassing. The statistics are in. We’re not as Rich As We Think. Let’s stop listening to commercial catch phrases and sit down with someone who can actually make a difference for you. I’d love the opportunity to have that conversation. I can help. It's an exciting week. I'm doing both of my jobs back to back to back this Thursday Friday & Saturday!! Some of you know that I'm a full-time financial professional during the day, badass song slinging soul singer at night.
