Shin splints refers to a nagging and dull ache that runs along the inner shin. Although, often not serious, shin splints can lead to more serious conditions (like stress fractures) if not treated properly. This is the reason why a lot of beginner runners tend to run into this problem. The impact from running creates a lot of repeated stress on our body, and the muscles and bones require time to adapt and rebuild to become stronger. When runners increase their training too q...uickly, it can cause the muscle and bone to be mechanically overstressed leading to injury. Although shin splints are common in runners, it is also frequently found in many who engage in sports activities such as: soccer, basketball, long jump, or tennis. Make sure you progress the frequency, duration, and intensity of your activities gradually to avoid shin splints. Shin splints is a tricky condition that may linger for weeks or months. Be patient, it can take anywhere between a couple of weeks to 6 months to heal. If you have pain, stop the activity do not ignore the symptoms because the earlier you receive treatment the faster your shin splints heal!

Bethany asked: How do I know if I injured my rotator cuff? A physiotherapist can use one of more than 25 functional tests during a physical exam to diagnosis a torn rotator cuff. Some of these tests directly indicate a rotator cuff injury and others rule out similar injuries like nerve impingement or torn labrum. https://www.brentwoodphysio.ca/how-to-know-if-damaged-rota/

Everyday we have runners come in for an evaluation. Quite often we look to fix their hips. The main purpose of the hip flexor is to bring the thigh up towards the stomach. When the hip flexors are excessively tight, they cause exaggerated pelvic anterior tilt (aka your butt out and the lower back arches).

Knee pain sucks, however, the majority of issues are due to tight muscles. Grab a roller and roll out your IT-Bands. There’s a good chance you’ll see relief if you roll once them out, once a day for 3weeks.

Hip hip hooray... that hurt me to type. Tight hip flexors is a buzzing term in gyms around the country. People in yoga studios are stretching out their hip flexors, runners are blaming a short stride and injuries on these muscles, and you yourself are probably asking about your own tight hips. This movement will help a lot! If it doesn’t make much of a difference, it’s probably time to have a physio take a look. There could be a more serious underlying issue. ...
