In life, you’re either the hammer or a nail. Which one are you going to be? I remember receiving this tidbit of wisdom as a younger man, but I do not recall from whom; it was another man, I know, but it wasn’t my father. This kind of black-and-white statement represents a real toxic element found in masculinity. You’re the hammer or the nailthe aggressor or the victim. Naturally, a man must choose the hammer, because it would be weak otherwise. The thing is, there ar...e so many more tools in the toolbox aside from these, and the choice doesn’t boil down to one or the other. The mindset of I need to get them before they get me is one of fear and scarcity. It perpetuates the idea that I’m either strong or weak, with no in-between. Be more. Be better. Be the entire toolbox, because there is so much more good you can do with that depth, breadth, and flexibility. Drop the stereotype, and define strength for yourselfnot in a way that puts you at odds with another in order to achieve it.
It is my hope that everyonewomen and men alikecan read and embrace this concept in the way it's meant: a sincere effort to open a dialogue amongst men about the difficulties, frustrations, pains, and fears we face, and how they hold us back from becoming the best versions of ourselves. There is, in no way, a comparison here between what men encounter in their lives versus what women do; nothing positive is gained from that, and women deserve every bit of empowerment, recogn...ition, and space they have, and continue to, step into. Rather, I want to acknowledge that men face a great deal of adversity from the toxicity, stigma, and stereotypes found within masculinity itself. We (men) largely perpetuate it ourselves, which is both heartbreaking and entirely in-common with every one of us being our own worst enemy. Connected and aware individuals with clear intention and purpose treat all those around them with dignity, respect, and kindness; by exploring the pains, adversities, and fears men experience, I want to help them embrace that connection, awareness, intention, and purpose, in order to expand, grow, and become the absolute best they can be. Sometimes, all you need is the slightest change in perspective to succeed. This week's Web Wednesday post is all about the method I use to help clients create steps towards their goalsby planning backward instead of forward! http://bit.ly/2ECP08t
The leap from awareness to action may seem daunting, but it's only because you've done a really great job at holding yourself in place. The great part about being your own biggest limitation? -You- can change that whenever you want--all you need is the will and determination to do so! http://bit.ly/2zUvdO6
Growth doesn't happen in the comfort zone. There's nothing wrong with making a pitstop there to catch your breath or enjoy some beautiful moments. Just remember that the lure of comfort is strong, and may hold you there longer than you desire. If your chosen path causes you discomfort, embrace it for all it's worth. Those adversities and uncertainties build the resilience, persistence, and tenacity you need to conquer any limit in your way!
