lovely saturday advice
Most of us are so well-practiced at apologising when we cry in front of others that it almost seems like a reflex action. It even happens in therapy - that pla...ce we go to express ourselves in a safe environment. We feel the need to apologise for allowing our emotion to surface and be seen. (FYI for anyone who ever goes to therapy, cry as much as you need to - your therapist does not mind one bit) It’s easy for someone to say, don’t do it. Not so easy in the moment when you feel the discomfort of being vulnerable with another person. But what if we could replace that apology with something different? Something that says it’s ok to be vulnerable? Maybe just a thank you to the other person if they responded with kindness? Then we could set in motion the idea that it is acceptable to feel and express emotion while acknowledging our gratitude to the other person for making that space safe. What are your thoughts on this? Follow @drjuliesmith for more. Sometimes, we can consider not focusing on the past or existing hurts or issues, and sometimes we can consider directing energy towards "what will I do next?" Connect your actions with your values or desired future state (e.g. the love you do want to express or want to share) If you are finding yourself feeling stuck, ask yourself if you really need to think back/process, or, if you just need to move forward.
this is advice for non-parents as well, of course!

i hope that stories of public figures help normalize the idea that sometimes people struggle; whether they might struggle a little, or a lot. (story: https://www.thestar.com//it-changed-my-life-after-20-years) he also reached out for help to try to figure out a game plan. if you or someone you know is in need of support (mindful that during holiday times, usually there is increased need), please seek out some help! http://www.briankonik.com/find-a-therapist/
