It's been a while since I posted mid-week music, so here's something I wrote recently for a beginner level band, called City Walk. I've also updated this page on my website so you can follow along with the music as it's played. This and the other pieces on my site can be purchased directly through the website, or from partners like Harknett Music. For those that have asked, I use Dorico notation software with NotePerformer for the instrument sounds. https://www.bwjmusic.com/concertband #Dorico #noteperformer #harknettmusic
After having put up the Christmas lights yesterday with my son, I thought I would post a Christmas Carol I arranged a couple of years ago. https://www.bwjmusic.com/huroncarol Huron Carol was first sung by the choir at St. Andrew's United Church in Hamilton under the direction of Cindy Juriga. The original piece is for SATB choir, but the recording on my website is for string quartet. I can also arrange this for your ensemble if you would like to perform it.
A little mid-week music post (or should it be hump day harmonies). This is a piece I wrote in September for adaptive band. Since most schools aren't able to put full sized bands together, this piece allows the group to pick any four band instruments to create an ensemble. I recently sold a copy of this to a high school in Tennessee, and I'm looking forward to hearing their interpretation. You can go to my web page to hear the piece played by Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet and Baritone Saxophone. https://www.bwjmusic.com/western I hope you enjoy it, and please feel free to post any feedback you have.
Here's a short video of a piece I wrote called Squirrels, performed by the Jagger Quartet consisting of Leah Jagger on clarinet, William Jagger on flute, Mallory Jagger on trumpet and me on piano. The original piece was for a video my friend and neighbour Jim Nardi made. I've also made an arrangement for adaptable ensemble, which is available on my website, along with all of my other music, at: www.bwjmusic.com. I hope you enjoy this.
Good Monday morning everyone! I want to share something that I'm pretty excited about. Back near the beginning of the summer, I started working on a virtual choir project, and I have finally finished it. Many thanks to those who contributed recordings for this project. It was a great learning experience, and I'm really happy with the results. One of the hardest things to simulate on the computer is a human voice, so having this virtual choir really makes a difference whe...n you are trying to show people what your piece sounds like. To listen to the final recording and have a score to follow along with, please go to this link: https://www.bwjmusic.com/agnusdei All of my other music is available to hear, see and purchase on this site as well. I hope you enjoy this, and please feel free to share this with anyone you think may be interested. Thanks.
Hi everyone. Just getting the word out that I have openings for piano students starting in September. I'm currently teaching live, online using Zoom so no worries about distancing or location. Please let me know if you are interested, and please feel free to share this post so others can inquire. Thanks.

Hi everyone. I'd like to invite you to take part in a project I'm working on. I recently wrote a piece for choir, and I'm trying to assemble a virtual choir to create a recording of the piece. I'm looking for anyone who is interested in giving it a try. I will provide copies of the music as well as recordings that you can sing along to. I've attached a sample of the music to this post. It does not get any more difficult than what you see here. All I need is for you t...o create a recording of you singing along to the music. This can be either video or audio only. I will compile all of the files to create the virtual choir. My goal is to have this done by the end of June. Please reach out to me either through Facebook Messenger or email at [email protected]. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have and to help you with the process. Also, if you know someone who you think may be interested, please forward this on to them as well. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to creating music together.
So there's this competition that Spitfire Audio and Westworld have running where you get to write the music for a 4 minute scene from the show's third season. Here's my take on it. There's some good bass, so try listening on decent speakers. Hope you enjoy. https://youtu.be/iGCYv3nyebw
My latest piece for choir is now available on Sheet Music Plus. You can see and hear it at the link below. https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/21753893 Please spread the word. Hopefully this will be a piece that choirs can use when we start reintegrating.
My family and I created this video yesterday (Easter Sunday). It's been cross posted on my personal page, but I wanted to share it here too. I hope you enjoy it. https://youtu.be/S8h8lTqhCVg
Ok, here we go. The third installment of the as of yet indeterminate length nature relaxation videos. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/6Dr4pPUMSyA Please enjoy and share. :)
Hi everybody. Since we're all socially distancing ourselves nowadays, it can be a struggle to keep active musically. My good friend and neighbour, Jim Nardi, has been creating short relaxation videos based on the wildlife around his house. I've written the music for both videos, and I'm posting the links here for you to enjoy and share. The first video uses music I had already written, while for the second video, I wrote the music over the last two mornings. As usual, I'...m using Dorico software from Steinberg to compose and render the audio files. The Squirrels In My Backyard - https://youtu.be/Wd_0YeIqZLs The Birds Outside My Window - https://youtu.be/3S_wKlFsyjQ Please share at will.
Hey everybody. In keeping with the current social distancing requirements, I'm available to teach online music lessons for anyone that's interested. This includes both piano and theory lessons. Please pass the word on.
[Update] I could have sworn I was in the Dorico users group when I posted this. Sorry about that everybody. Of course, if you know the answer please feel free to post it here. :) Between playing techniques, expression maps, percussion maps, etc. I'm going in circles.... I have a vst instrument that contains multiple cymbals and playing techniques for each cymbal. Each individual combination of cymbal and technique corresponds to a midi note value. I want to show the cymbal in the score as a single line instrument. I created a percussion map so that the midi notes correspond to the vst values. How do I get the notes I'm entering in the single line staff to change midi values?
Super excited to be part of this event at McMaster University next Saturday. Looking forward to meeting some great students and passing on some life experience.
Working on some orchestral music today and found some cool scraped, bowed, banged percussion sounds on the Spitfire website. Just the kind of thing I needed. It's amazing what I can do today compared to what was available back when I was in school.
I have room for more students. It would be great if you would share this. Thanks everyone.
I have room for a few more piano, theory, or composition students. Times available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Please spread the word. :)
Happy to be able to be part of Victoria and Arik's wedding service Saturday. Wishing you all the best as you share your lives together.
Our accompanist (for the Albertones) will be part of this great evening of music. Head on out tomorrow evening to show him some love.
