Self-Worth ... You Are Already Worthy Does anyone else struggle with this, secretly, or is it only a few of us. It's not an everyday feeling. It creeps in though, subtly.... Thankfully I have tools from training with my Teachers who co-founded thewayoftheheart.com as well as working with my Spiritual Guide and Life Mission Coach. It takes a village :-) Sometimes it's catching the inner critic several times a day. Other days, I am "on my game", connected with that place of self-acceptance, self-worth. Adia Gooden has some sage guidance to cultivate self-worth as an ongoing practice. May you know, you ARE worthy, now and always! #selfkindness #selfworthjourney #idealpresence #forgivenessisfreedom #selfacceptancejourney https://ideas-ted-com.cdn.ampproject.org//how-to-cult/amp/

PSA: Employer Application Period for the 2021 Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program is closing on January 29 This program allows for an estimated 120,000 youth employment placements over the course of next year. ... Applicants who do not have an account on the secure Government Grants and Contributions Online Services will need to create one. Registration is a one-time process that allows employers to submit their applications for CSJ funding and other funding opportunities offered through Employment and Social Development Canada. Similar temporary flexibilities introduced for CSJ 2020 will be applied this year to help small businesses operate. These include: a wage subsidy, so that private and public-sector employers can receive up to 75 percent of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage for each employee (not-for-profit organizations will continue to receive 100 percent); an extension to the end date for employment to February 26, 2022; and allowing employers to hire staff on a part-time basis https://www.canada.ca//employment-so/news/2020/12/csj.html

"To Be Honest" ... what are we really saying? Part 1 Often, I am in conversations with professionals and new acquaintances who, during the conversation, say "to be honest". I was contemplating this and wondering ... when we say "to be honest" what are we really saying.... Are we really saying, "to be transparent"? Transparent means: allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be distinctly seen (are we wanting to put more light on what we are saying?) Easy to perceive or detect (are we wanting to be perceived in a particular way) having thoughts, feelings, or motives that are easily perceived (there we are ... perceived) Perhaps the next time someone says (or you say) "to be honest" ask them what they are really saying. #idealpresence #wordoftheday #communicationskills #language #croi #lifemission

#beautyhunting Beauty is a mindset. When we choose beauty, we are fed at a cell and soul level.... Choosing to see something, someone as beautiful nourishes us and creates connection versus pushing that something or someone away. Choosing beauty creates a particular kind of presence, space for others to lean in, versus being repelled. #idealpresence

We Need Each Other Developing our Ideal Presence Even in physical distancing.... Reach out and connect with someone each day who comes to your awareness or heart. It happened 4x this week for me. I reached out to people I hadnt connected with in years. And their response: I was just thinking about you. We are Always connected, and then can make the connection. As Mother Teresa has said, we belong to each other. #idealpresence includes connection and communicating kindly. #idealpresence includes a smile, kind word, patience. #idealpresence includes actually listening and showing you are listening (not your head down on a Zoom call attending to your phone for instance). Or presence communicates our essence, the perfume of our Being. Or presence conveys love, grace, goodness. Join the movement. Develop your ideal presence. It Will be a kinder world.

The Life Mission Journey ... following the threads What I love about the #lifemission journey, the training with Daniel Goodenough and my fellow pilgrims in the conversation of life mission is the importance of following the thread. When we are deeply in the intentional conversation with the Spirit of our life and life mission, there is a sense of freedom, a conversation that is about love, the love of our life and the love in our life.... Sure there are times when things are challenging. It doesnt mean that we arent in this #lifemission conversation though. This poem showed up today, as I a tracking and following the threads of my life mission. https://wordsfortheyear.com//the-way-it-is-by-william-sta/ If you are feeling the pull of your heart toward a conversation with life mission, Caravan Conversations Club is a great resourse.

#offtheshelf Nonviolent Communication A Language of Life Marshall B. Rosenberg A friend of mine is a part of a blended family. Her partner and his son are at each other to the escalated point of yelling at each other.... I can imagine there are many challenges in families and with colleagues right now. Marshall Rosenberg is an amazing man. He has worked in areas of international tensions and conflict. I offered the gift of p81, 82 to my friend as it felt salient to her situation and others: "We can help others trust that we are requesting, not demanding, by indicating that w would only want the person to comply if he or she can do so willingly..."Would you be will to ...?" This demonstrates that we are making a request ... and be specific" I have used this with my family, friends, clients, strangers and I find the question, Would you be willing? offers the other person choice and gives us a place to start a negotiation. My experience is that people are more willing when I ask if they are willing, versus demand or attempt to command what I want as an outcome. #idealpresence #negotiating #questioning #changeyourperspective #managingstress #lifemission

Create the Water Cooler Experience ... Virtually How to choose the time for you versus scheduling another meeting A fellow entrepreneur and I (she lives on Vancouver Island) have been connecting by the Marco Polo app.... [disclaimer: I get nothing from them. We simply like this app for our purposes.] I have been at my desk all day. Its been a delightful day today because I havent felt alone or isolated. My colleague and I have been using the app to connect asynchronously with short video check-ins throughout the day. I love having these brief water cooler connections, I get to listen to her updates and/or create my own updates. Our updates include ideas, we exchange comments about our projects, give input, ask for input ... its quite delightful. I know people connect by WhatsApp, Slack, Teams, Zoom etc. There is something really great though, to have these little check-ins when we can, versus a scheduled time. This way, we get to control our calendar, project commitments and time, while getting to socialize and check-in. #9toFine #idealpresence #time #scheduling #culture #changeyourperspective #managingstress #communicationtips #wfhtips Photo Credit: NeONBRAND on Unsplash

#Offtheshelf: singletasking, get more done one thing at a time, Devora Zack Keeping with the theme of time, to dos and getting things done This is my favourite book because this whole business of multi-tasking used to make me crazy. I didnt buy it and then, Devoras book (and much more information since) says:... p. 16 multi-tasking is technically called task-switching moving rapidly and ineffectively among tasks. Eureka! One might argue that I can do dishes and listen to the news. Yes you can. Devora writes: Multitasking means combining two or more activities, potentially causing at least one to receive inadequate attention. Activities that require virtually no conscious effort can be performed in conjunction with primary tasks and do not fall in the bandwidth of multitasking. Simple tasks are automated, low-level functions, including rote activities that do not require concentration. p. 18 There is much research, neuroscience research and great information about how impossible multi-tasking is. We may think we can multi-task except the repercussions of even attempting to multi-task can put us into fatigue, becoming irritable, brain shrinkage (p. 46), reduction in experience flow (p. 47), lack of clarity and so much more. So, if we are wanting to get to our to dos in a day, thinking we can multi-task may actually slow us down and derail our best efforts. This book and other research contributed to the 9 to Fine 5 Step System I created to support individuals in finding time to become more efficient and effective in their roles individually as well as effective as a part of a team. One of the steps offered in the system: what do you do in a day / week. If you track this (yes, even now with #workingfromhome) you will be able to get more of a sense of what you do and when to then take the next steps in finding time. #idealpresence #tracking #9tofine #lifemission

How Long is 60 Seconds? I have integrated 60 second rest moments in my day to focus breathing and practice presence. I am practising what I recommend!... These 60 second scheduled times help me stay connected, grounded, calm in moments when fear or anxiety flare up. They simply help me be in presence. Are 60 seconds the same for all of us? From a clock time perspective, we might be inclined to say, yes of course 60 seconds is the same for all of us. However, 60 seconds may be experienced in different ways. If you were to set your timer for 60 seconds, how do you experience the 60 seconds: 1) Time flies by in a good way 2) Time feels like it drags 3) These 60 seconds create less anxiety 4) These 60 second create more calm 5) These 60 second create more ____ emotion I find that my experience of the same 60 seconds of clock time can be different each time. By practising breathing intentionally for 60 seconds, I am practising letting the emotions move through me and breathing in calm and love as much as possible. The idea isnt perfecting my breathing as much as its giving myself time outs throughout the day, to reset. Its helping these days. How do you experience 60 seconds? #time #breathing #idealpresence #lifemission Photo credit: Jon Tyson on Unsplash

Todays #offtheshelf Linchpin, Seth Godin Chapter: The Resistance, p. 124 Where is the Fear? I have been following Seth Godin for many years.... This particular book caught my attention today, the Chapter on resistance, the pages on fear and anxiety. Neuroscience and research have given us many examples of how change, shock, and trauma affect us. They trigger the fight, flight and freeze response of the amygdala/lizard brain that Seth writes in his book. I find myself needing to re-calibrate each day, maybe even several times a day dealing with any one of these responses. I have integrated booking 60 second time-outs into my calendar. I set my timer for 60 seconds and breathe into my diaphragm. To the best of my ability in the moment, I focus on the breath. Im not new to focused breathing. And yet I feel like a beginner any given day, at any given moment. Breathing is the one thing I can bring more focus to, that is close to being in my control. Focused and intentional breathing has given me, at times, 60 seconds of stress and anxiety relief. 60 seconds has brought people into my awareness who I then reach out to and let them know I am here to help how I can. What are some of your techniques to reduce the experience of fear or anxiety? #breathing #lifemission #hope

Todays #offtheshelf 168 Hours, Laura Vanderkam p.46 create categories for your calendar log... I have been in the conversation about no time vs not a priority right now" with clients as they navigate their new rhythm that is ever changing. When attempting to plan our day/week, tracking either electronically or in our paper calendar (yes, some still use paper!) we can ask: what is my priority/are my priorities today how much time do I want invest/spend on activities that are non-essential to me moving forward for my goals for the day/week etc. where will I schedule in self-care and for x time A "trick" I learned is to colour code categories of my to dos and put the big chunks on the calendar first. Another conversation I had with my Coach: embrace more flexibility and adaptability while ensuring that the parts of my day that truly support me stay on the calendar. For me, my have tos include: daily meditation a walk build in 60 sec. time outs (I set my timer for 60 seconds to let my brain be empty and simply breathe eat something nutritious life mission scales drink at least 6 cups of water Do you have daily go tos that feed you in this time of upheaval and change? #lifemission #time #choice

Todays #offtheshelf The Little Book of Talent, 52 Tips for Improving Your Skills Daniel Coyle... Some books are timeless and can still applicable in unprecedented times. pp. 24-26: Tip 9: To Build Soft Skills, Play Like a Skateboarder "...soft skills are build by playing and exploring inside challenging, ever-changing environments." "These are places where you encounter different obstacles and respond to them over and over". "...to build soft skills ... behave less like a careful carpenter and more like a skateboarder: ... curious, experimental, always seeking new ways to challenge yourself." were there "Even the most creative skills ... require long periods of clumsiness." yes, feeling clumsy "They became skilled by performing thousands of intensive reaches and reps in an endlessly challenging, variable ... space ... focus on making a high number of varied reps, ... feedback ... (keep asking) What worked? What didnt? And why?" I find myself stepping forward, pause, reflect, change / edit, take another step ... Todays #OfftheShelf Leading Every Day, Actions for Effective Leadership Joyce Kaser, Susan Mundyr, Katherine E. Stilles, Susan Loucks-Horsley... Book 2, Day 28: Individuals as Agents of Change p. 84 "..change is a collaborative effort. it is highly unlikely that a single individual can carry out a major change initiative alone." Okay, this is obvious to many. We are seeing change happening every day and collaborative change. And yet, in times of stress, many leaders and professionals, feeling pressure to perform, figure it out, have all the answers may be struggling. What I have witnessed with my clients is that they are embracing even more collaboration and listening, They are not jumping to conclusions right while still making decisions that need to be made, right now. Owners are realizing they want to ask more questions, bring the team closer, collaborate more, especially now. They are building an even more solid foundation for their companys future moving forward. Today, a day = a month. Individuals who have recently been put in a position of leadership may find collaboration and communication their friend right now, to support their decisions. #leadership #listening #collaboration #leadingchange #questioning #changeyourperspective #futureleadership #lifemission

Todays #offtheshelf The Art of Possibility Transforming Professional and Personal Life Rosamund Stone and Benjamin Zander... p. 27 "each student in the class will get an A for the course" This idea of giving ourselves an "A" sung to me today. What if we gave ourselves an "A" for the day. And then wrote ourselves a quick note, in past tense, of how we moved through the day, being the person who received an "A". We talked about this in our #letstalkaboutseries this morning, seeing ourselves "in the future" wherever we are at, that future being the end of the day, the week, the month etc. Zander gives examples of the letters his students wrote from their future selves. Their letters didnt bypass any challenges, it was more about the people they were becoming in their future (e.g. moving from self-judgment to more self-compassion). I like to bring in positivity while acknowledging that each of us are at the place we are at with our emotions. Today, this week, this weekend, what if you gave yourself an "A" and lived into that you, celebrating how resilient, how determined, how ... you are. And what you moved through to your "A"? AND, if you would like an "escape" for 20 minutes, Benjamin Zander has a delightful TED talk. We will continue the #letstalkaboutseries on Mon Apr 6 #lifemission #bigpicture

Todays #offtheshelf . Mans Search for Meaning, Victor E. Frankl . Today pg 121: The Will to Meaning... . While I have been in this daily inquiry of meaning for my own life, I have found, especially now, that I am starting my day with the questions: Why am I here? What does this call me to do? And who does this call me to become? . The brain abhors a vacuum so by asking these questions, with intention, and then listening and paying attention to "the book of life" - what shows up, we can become more clear. . All these questions are tied to meaning and life mission. We All count. We All have a life mission, unique to us, even if the what (nurse, coach etc.) Is the same title. . Now that we have that extra two hours, we may be realizing that the "to dos" werent that urgent anyway. Or even necessary at all. Times are strange.
