International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination Created as a response to the killing of 69 protesters at a peaceful anti-apartheid demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa in 1960, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has been observed around the world every year on March 21 since 1966. The United Church Of Canada has made a commitment to becoming an anti-racist denomination. This commitment is part of the church’s ongoing work... toward racial justice. While we give thanks for the diversity of people of cultures and ethnicities, of histories and life-stories, of skin colour and language and hearts that love the world; the best way to give thanks is to disassemble the systems, the stories, the mythos, that privilege one colour over another is to root out (and un-root) the insidious beliefs of those of us with privilege (sometimes hidden quietly within, sometimes disguised, sometimes trumpeted as manifesto) that me and mine are better than you and yours. To root out quiet racism to root out White Fragility, and White Supremacy so that it withers and dies. It is time. It is well past time. On this International Day to End Racial Discrimination. God of all creation, bless us all with what we need, to take on this work, and live it. Today. Every day. Always. Until this International Day is a thing of memory. In Jesus’ name. May it be. A prayer for March 21, the International Day to Eliminate Racial Discrimination, by the Right Rev. Richard Bott. Originally posted on Facebook. Moderator Bott encourages the sharing of prayers he posts throughout his term. As Christians, we must root out fear, and commit to practices that help us to ground our actions in love. former Moderator Jordan Cantwell

Last Sunday, the #BUnitedYouth of Bridgewater United Church created their own PIE as we continue our discussion of living a faithful life that is welcoming and inclusive of all. Although we all love different flavours of pie, when put together, it created a PIE that was beautiful and wonderful, with no hate or exclusion. We love that from our discussion, came an opportunity for our #BUnitedYouth to experiment with new pie flavours, Lemon Meringue and Smarties, a Randy Rafuse special recipe. Bravo Wamboldt family. PIE = Public. Intentional. Explicit. March 14th is a chance to serve some pie and roll out the PIE by celebrating the full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ and Two Spirit people in faith communities and beyond across Canada.

Time for some good news! Our new buses have arrived and they are amazing! More accessible, cleaner and a heck of a lot quieter, they are going to be a game c...hanger for Bridgewater Transit and its riders. This would not have been possible without the support of the provincial government and so I want to thank Minister Furey and Minister Glavine for their efforts on this. I also must thank our incredible team at the Town of Bridgewater who put in a lot of hours to see the dream of public transit become a reality. You are awesome and I am so proud of you all. In a world that seems to struggle to find good news in 2020, I hope that when you see the new buses roaming around town, it will put a smile on your face knowing that it's having a big impact on the lives of so many. To the people of Bridgewater, Thank You!

The theme for this year is Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen. This is the key message of this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign which runs from October 4th 10th. Cooking is the #1 cause of fire in the home. Become aware of what your local fire department does to keep your community safe! Thank you to the @BridgewaterFireDepartment for all you do to keep our community safe. Situational awareness is a skill people need to use wherever they go. No matter where you are..., look for available exits. If the alarm system sounds, take it seriously and exit the building immediately. Close doors behind you as you leave this may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Once you get outside, stay outside. Never go back inside a burning building. Here at Bridgewater United Church, a church within the United Church of Canada, we will review and practice these important measures through dialogue and drills to ensure our congregational members are safe in any emergency: 1. Evacuate the building via the nearest exit; if you are the last one to leave the building be sure to close the door. 2. Proceed to the front lawn on Hillcrest Street, under the trees, between the street and parking lot. 3. Do not return to the building or leave the property until instructed by fire officials. 4. Fire warden will be the only liaison between the fire officials and the Church.

Today we welcomed back Sunday School at B-United, of the United Church Of Canada, where our small group discussed The Ten Commandments, and how rules should be seen as blessings. Those blessings were seen as being as sweet as honey. Sometimes it’s hard to see things as blessings, when it makes you feel restricted....but in the end you will be grateful for all they offer #Respect #Love #WhichIsYourHardestCommandmentToFollow
