Shout out to 4H! Every fall our farm collects donations to buy juice crystals for the CT department at the Cross Cancer Institute. Why? For those of you who di...dn’t know...when some cancer patients are undergoing treatment, they often have to do a lot of CT scans. The hospital will flavor the contrast fluid so that it doesn’t taste so gross! But, all of those drink crystals are given to the hospitals by donation only. We didn’t know that until our good friend, Allen, went one day during his treatment and there were no crystals for his CT scan. When he passed away we wanted to do something to honor his memory. We had a bench made and we collect money to buy drink crystals. This year, the amazing families in the Duffield 4H group decided they would like to raise some money to buy crystals too! They raised $1820 and 55 containers of crystals!!! So amazing. That should be enough money to supply crystals to the Cross Cancer Institute for almost a full year. Last week I had the privilege of helping Annette drop off the first 60 cans of crystals, which should last about 3 months. We will continue to buy crystals every 3 months so hopefully no one ever has to drink contrast fluid without flavour. We believe that it is the little things in life that can really make a difference, so thank you Duffield 4H for donating. Hold your loved ones tight, you don’t know how long you have with them. We miss you, Allen!!!!
