Our teacher disappeared for a bit today and was replaced by this mad scientist who showed us some interesting science experiments. She showed us how we can make a rainbow with skittles and water. Learning about science in early childhood can establish a lifelong love of science and help provide the basics and groundwork to learning other scientific concepts later on when they are in school. They get to have sensory play, learn about problem solving, build on language skills ...and can even work with the basics in mathematics. Creating an interest in science early on allows an additional creative outlet for children to explore the world around them but also introduces them, and young girls especially, into possible future career paths in STEM. Learning to take care of our teeth on National Give Kids a Smile Day in OSC and had the chance to make smiley face snacks with apples, soy spread and marshmallows. Our brand new toothbrushes were generously provided by @refresh_dental. Thank you so much! Our little friends entertaining themselves with the wide selection of books in the classrooms. Some would say reading a farm animal book to an infant would teach them only about farm animals. What that moment is also teaching them is the concept of books, and how there is new information on each page of a single object; beyond that it is also teaching about language, human interactions, and one of the ways they can begin to develop schemas about the world they live in. For today's craft, we tried out painting with leaves! This activity is super simple and requires very few supplies. All you need are some leaves, colourful markers and paper! Together with your child, take a walk outside and let them gather up a few leaves that they would like to use for painting. Then encourage them to colour on the back of a leaf with as many colours as they would like. Demonstrate how to turn the leaf over onto the paper and press down to transfer the colo...urs from the leaf.
