Bright’s Grove Animal Hospital is proud and excited to partner with the Official Sarnia & District Humane Society. This new arrangement will provide the Humane Society with a source of sustainable income and access to the veterinary care needed for all the animals that come through the Shelter’s doors. With the recent pandemic of COVID-19, it became apparent that any future fundraising initiatives and events for non-profit organizations, like the SDHS, would be severely im...pacted - this will affect the Shelter’s ability to keep their doors open. Taking a proactive approach, the Shelter began looking at alternative ways of remaining financially viable. Over the last several years, we at the clinic have provided veterinary care to the Shelter. This has allowed us to expand our expertise in dealing with a diverse population of stray and unwanted animals. Both the Clinic and the Shelter will benefit from this union, now and in the future. Bright’s Grove Animal Hospital and the Sarnia & District Humane Society will remain two separate businesses. We will continue to operate as a full-service clinic, as we have for over 30 years, providing compassionate care for companion animals in the Sarnia-Lambton area. You, as a client, will not notice any difference in the staff or level of service that you have come to expect from us. The only difference will be that you will now know that part of the money you spend at the clinic will go to helping stray, unwanted and injured animals. The Humane Society will remain the drop-off location for all stray, surrendered, and injured animals. With this exciting opportunity, the Shelter is able to remain a viable and integral part of the community, dedicated to finding forever homes, and caring for the lost, lonely, and forgotten animals of Sarnia-Lambton. A few months back we had a tiny, injured puppy brought to us by Official Sarnia & District Humane Society. He couldn’t have been more than 5 weeks old, was cold, shivering and had a terrible deep wound on his neck and shoulder area. Our team here worked quickly to get him warmed up and Dr Griffiths cleaned and stitched his wounds. Dr Delavigne graciously fostered this little pup, whom she named Kevin, and nursed him back to health. He needed medication and frequent bandage changes so he could not have been in better hands. Kevin has since been adopted by a wonderful, loving family. Even though he now lives in London, he has come back to see us for his follow up appointments and boosters. He has come so far and is now a healthy and very happy pup! We you Kevin!

Our Registered Veterinary Technicians participate in many of the treatments that are prescribed to your pets by the doctors. From nail trims, expressing anal glands (no pictures of that ) to administering SQ fluids and holding for appointments an RVT is a bit of a jack of all trades. We need their skills and patience everyday to make a successful veterinary team. #rvtmonth #rvtmonthcanada #rvtsdoitall #celebrateourrvts #vetmed #vettechlife #vettech #brightsgrovevet

Our Registered Veterinary Technicians do much of the lab work that is ordered by our doctors. They are often the ones that are responsible for collecting samples and running the required tests. This can include blood samples, urine and even ! Blood samples are most commonly taken from a vein in the front leg. Urine is often brought into us by owners but for some animals, cats particularly, it can be difficult to collect so ultrasound can be used to locate the bladder to retrieve a sample. Our technicians use the microscope for many reasons including analysis of skin scrapings and to look for parasites. Posted just below in the comments is a short video of magnified ear mites. Not for the squimish! #rvtmonth #weloveourvettechs

Did you know at our hospital we typically do surgery 3 days per week? Our Registered Veterinary Technicians are with your pets every step of the way during this process as was shown in a previous post. After your pet is awake and resting, our RVT's get to work on getting cleaned up and ready for the next day. The surgical suite is cleaned and sanitized. Instruments are washed, packed and sterilized. Every pack is labelled and dated because if they sit longer than a month without being used, they must be opened and sterilized again. Our RVT's clean the treatment area from counters to floors to cages. Oh and don't forget the never ending laundry! These things tend to not be the most exciting part of the job but must be done to keep the clinic running smoothly and efficiently.

October is #rvtmonth in Ontario. As registered RVT’s, Veronica, Sarah and Tabby are with your pets each step of the way during surgery. They run pre-anesthesia bloodwork, administer medication, and monitor vital parameters such as heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature and level of anesthesia. They are there from the beginning of the procedure to the end, continuing to monitor your pet while they wake up. #celebratervtmonth #registeredveterinarytechnician #surgeryday #theydoitall
