Why your horse "isn't listening" Horse's reactions are based on: Instinct - responding to pain, fear, energy, emotions, intuition.... Learned behavior - responding based on operant conditioning or classical conditioning. Trying - responding based on what they think you are asking. So when your trusty steed isn't doing what you want...take a step back and go through your checklist... Do they feel safe? Do they know the right answer? Am I being clear, calm, congruent & connected? When your horse feels safe to be present & they are capable of performing what is being asked & you are helping them to understand... that's a recipe for success ~Bright Stride Equine

Talladega - 3yo Andalusian Stallion Tally had his first real ride today (without someone walking on the ground beside us) and he seriously knocked my socks off! I've spent every day of his training helping him feel safe and teaching him to regulate, relax and stay present... today, on his twelfth day of training, when I felt my body get tense/shaky he actually stopped, looked back at me and once I took a deep breath then he walked on. Who is teaching who how to stay calm? ... They always teach me more than I could ever teach them

Ohana and I enjoyed some mutual grooming tonight
"I think it really takes a change in a person's perspective to where you get to the point where you don't feel the need to fix everything with your horse, and looking back on my journey I never really thought I'd arrive at this place, and I am so glad I did."

Moose showing Grizzly the ropes She showed him the best spot to get in the pond to cool off and when he was confused about how to get out she jumped back in to show him. At one point when we were walking he turned the wrong way and wasn't coming back when I called, so Moose booked it up the hill to find him and 30 seconds later they both came tearing around the corner. Grizzly is well on his way to being a farm dog

If your horse is dysregulated they don't physically have access to the part of the brain needed to follow instructions or learn. They're not "not listening", they actually CAN'T listen...not until you help them regulate and reconnect first.
First ride back after having her baby just a super easy one because it's an inferno out here. They both did great!
