A few more of the Northern Hawk Owl :)

Northern Hawk Owl visiting NS this winter :)

BR Images 16.12.2020

A Pleasant, Or I Should Say "Pheasant" Day! We managed to make it out for a bit on Friday and came across this girl. She was among other female and male pheasants roaming around. When we stopped, most of them disappeared, but this girl climbed up on a mound of tree roots from a fallen tree and acted like she was nesting. It was amusing to watch and she stayed there fluffing herself up and picking at the roots, laying down and standing up. We left after a few moments and she continued to pick at the roots and fluff herself....lol. Taken with Canon EOS R & Canon EF 500mm L IS f4 with Canon 1.4x lll teleconverter. Shot from the car window.

"Let's Do The Twist!" Got a kick out of this one when we saw this adult bald eagle, leap in the air, heading in one direction, and in a fraction of a second, change it's mind and direction....lol. Nova Scotia, January 2020

We're finally posting again! Sorry for the lack of activity. In October we were in the middle of renovating and then selling a house and then Christmas came....lol. So now, with all that over, we plan to be more active with getting out and posting. We are in NS for a few days and on our way here, we were lucky enough to view some eagles along the roadside, so we stopped for a little bit and set up our tripods.... Here is a shot taken yesterday, towards the end of day where 2 eagles had a little disagreement :)

When Hurricane Dorian blew through the Maritimes, it left a few visitors, birds temporarily stranded while they recovered from the storm. We were lucky to be able to see one of these birds, the American Avocet. It has been recovering for a few weeks now and hopefully will be back on its way south soon. Taken at Hartlen Point, Nova Scotia on Sept. 28, 2019. Photos to follow.

Sandhill Cranes Short video of some visiting Sandhill Cranes, in Jolicure, NB. As you can hear at the start of the video, they are very vocal birds. They even drown out the sound of an ambulance, in the background.

Seafoam Lavender Visit About a week ago we made the trip to Seafoam Lavender Company & Gardens in Nova Scotia to see the lavender fields. Such a pretty place with the Lavender, other flowers, chairs, and a foot bridge, surrounding a pond on the property. It is a beautiful place to visit and we will definitely be back :) Here are a few photos from our visit.

Belted Kingfisher On Branch At Sunset (7 Photos) About a week or so ago, we went down to Nova Scotia to see the Lavender Fields and on our way back we decided to stop off at a local spot there to see if we could spot any wildlife and take in a sunset. Well we pulled over after getting some late supper and while we were eating, we heard what we thought was a belted kingfisher in the area. About a minute later we saw this girl land on a branch right beside us, to our surprise. She was only about 30 feet from us and allowed us to take a few photos before flying off again. What a great ending to that day :)

Bobolink On Pink For a while now, I’ve set a goal for myself to eventually get a songbird perched on some pink or purple flowers. But to date, I haven’t been successful in finding a situation where a bird lands on flowers or colourful weeds when we are on our outings. The other day, I said to Roger, It would be very nice to find a bird perched on either pink or purple flowers tonight..that’s not too much to ask for, is it?. Well I literally said that about 5 minutes befo...re Roger pulled the car over to the side and pointed to my side of the road. When I looked over, there it was..a Bobolink, perched on Fireweed, not too far out. Also a female Bobolink on another section. Who says wishes don’t come true :) Camera: Canon 7Dii Lens: Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS & Canon 1.4xiii teleconverter

An Evening At Sackville Waterfowl Park And The Marsh As stated in a previous post, a couple of weeks ago, we acquired a new lens, the Canon EF 500mm f/4 L IS. We have been busy taking it out for a spin to photograph some wildlife on our journeys. It’s been limited as the weather was not very friendly for awhile. But on this particular evening, we went to Sackville Waterfowl Park and then to the Marsh for some testing. Here are some photos taken with the 500mm on the Sony A7iii. Some are with the 500mm by itself, and others are with the Canon 1.4x iii teleconverter attached, and the last photo with the Canon 2x iii teleconverter making it a 1000mm.

The Colour Purple Last week we had a bit of clear weather, so after work we stopped for a few photos. WE had been looking for a good spot for Lupins and ended up near the Parlee Beach exit of the highway, outside Shediac. There were a lot of Lupons and Irises around. Here are a few of my favourites.

A New Additional To The Arsenal We made a bit of an investment into another big lens for getting up close and personal with wildlife, without intruding in their personal space. Watching the used lens market can sometimes lead to good deals. We picked up a Canon 500mm F/4L IS USM ver.1. We have been doing a bit of testing but the weather has not been the best with cool, rainy, overcast days. Here are a few of the shots I took using the Canon EOS R.

Confederation Bridge at Cape Jourimain, NB at sunrise. We took a little trip to try to capture the sunrise at Cape Jourimain of the bridge between NB and PEI. The morning was pretty dark with lots of cloud cover. We didn't think there would be a sunrise for the first little while. But after quite a few minutes, there was a break in the clouds, just enough to let the sun peak through and cast a warm glow and pink/purple hues in the sky. #explorenb #ExplorePEI #confederationbridge #sunrise

Guess what we came home to the other day? A Sharp-shinned Hawk sitting in a tree in the backyard. There were songbirds flying around but it didn't seem interested in them at the time. It was cold and very windy that day so we think it was trying to take shelter from the bitter wind. Happy Superb Owl Day In honour of Superb Owl Day, I thought I should share one of our Snowy Owl pictures from the past few weeks. This was shortly after dawn on a cold morning. Picture(s) of the Day - "A Day With The Eagles" - Jan 7, 2019 The beginning of 2019 has been an interesting start to the year for us. The weather was either unusually mild or we have snow and freezing temperatures. But that is par for the Maritimes..lol. So starting the year off was a snowy owl, then we went on a little trip and we got to spend a bit of time with some bald eagles. On the day we went, there must have been over a 100 of them, all ages, from juveniles, to sub... adults, to adults. It was a wonderful day. As you all might know, I especially have an attachment to eagles, owls, and foxes. We love all wildlife, but those 3 are among my favourites. We had my daughter with us and at one spot, I wanted to show her an eagle’s nest we knew was in the area. Of course, at this time of the year, it was not in use. When we stopped and pointed it out to her, at first she didn’t see it, and then she said Mom, I don’t see the nest, but I see an eagle. We looked up and there was an sub adult bald eagle sitting on a branch on one of the trees. We got out to see it and when we did, there must have been a dozen eagles in the tree just above our heads because they all flew at the same time, making snow fall on our heads.lol. We never saw or heard them until they flew :) But it was an amazing view. On one of the trees, there was an juvenile bald eagle, sitting very relaxed, near our car when we came back (last 3 photos). He/she let us take several photos and never moved, only looked around. Such a beautiful bird :) Taken with Sony A73 & Sigma 150-600 C lens with Sigma 1.4x teleconverter @840mm.

Snowy Owls To End 2018 The very last day of 2018 was a great end to the year. Cannot get better than owls..(or eagles.lol). One of the owls was getting harassed by a crow. Usually we see more than one trying to harass them, but this time there was only one. Crows are extremely intelligent, but I don’t think the owl thought so that day.lol. On our way home, we saw another one on the roof near the chimney, having a snooze. I really like the composition on this one (last pho...to). It was very cold that day and it’s almost as if she was trying to warm herself up :) Not really.but to us mere humans, it may seem that way :) Taken with Canon EOS R & Canon 300mm f/2.8 L IS with Canon 2x lll teleconverter @600mm, cropped.

Picture(s) of the Day - "Snowy Blue Skies" - Dec 30, 2018 This morning after work, we decided to visit another one of our local snowy owls. We saw it on the very top of an evergreen tree. It’s not very often we see a snowy owl on a tree. It does happen, however we have not seen this very often ourselves. It sat there, relaxing, then closed it’s eyes to snooze for a few moments, then decided to preen. It’s always interesting how birds do this to keep their feathers clean, st...raightened, and position them just right :) After a few moments, it looked over at us and then something got it’s attention to the left. Another little bit of time and we were ready to go home for a nap. We were running on fumes this morning after a 10 hour shift.lol. The owl was still on the top of the tree when we left. Probably was going to remain there. Even though we were tired, it was certainly a nice ending to our day to see this beauty :) Taken with Canon EOS R & Sigma 150-600mm C lens with a 1.4x teleconverter, shot in crop mode of 1.6x (total focal length @1344mm).

Picture(s) of the Day - "Mallard Duck Squabble" - Dec 29, 2018 Today was just a fun day at our local park spending time with the mallard ducks that are hanging around. There was some bickering going on between one of the females and one of the males (first 3 photos). It started out that she was giving him a good talking to..lol, then she turned around and he bit her in the backside. At that point she decided to take off and flew off the fence. It was amusing to watch :) La...st photo was another female mallard that flew by a few moments after the squabble and half turned her head to look in the males direction....lol. Taken with Canon EOS R & Sigma 150-600mm C lens @180mm / 1/1000 secs / f6.3 / ISO 3200. Last photo was shot at f8 / ISO 12,800 / 1/1600 secs / @165mm.
