Okay. So, I know I’ve been blabbing about holding onto summer and pretending things are still green. And I know that technically we’re still more than 3 weeks away from the first day of autumn. But, holy crap, it was chilly here yesterday! All day! Like, I needed socks!... And long sleeves! And a jacket! So while most of me is still happy to be in denial, part of me just wants to embrace the change in seasons and cast on all the cozy things in all the fall colors. I’m calling this my unofficial fall palette. You might recognize some of these colorways; some have been previously introduced as prototypes, some are being used for current collaborations, and some are being used for super exciting things that will be announced soon! I pulled out my Lady Fingers Sweater today. Was going to wear it but then discovered I spilled something down the front of it the last time I wore it. So it’s getting washed. But I love, love, love how these colorways play together, and couldn’t resist snapping a photo to share!! . Superwash bases in the house!! . Last week I gave you my thoughts on non-superwash treated yarns, and today I’ll take to the soapbox with some of my thoughts on superwash treated yarns. If you’re new to all this, superwash treatment is a process that removes the scales from the outside of the individual fibres. This result in yarns that are smooth and soft, with increased washability, and resistance to felting. The smooth surface of the fibres also allows dye colors to be inc...redibly vibrant! The smooth surface of these yarns creates fabric with stitches that kind of slip past each other. This can make getting gauge and gauge jumping kind of tricky because the fabric is less predictable (we’ve all made a project that keeps growing). My opinion, this makes them amazing candidates for lacework and creating drapey fabrics, but slightly less ideal for brioche knitting and cables... and of course, I love superwash for socks because of color and washability! Anyhoooooo... An Oily Swell is shown here, from left to right, on my 75/25 Merino Sock, 75/25 BFL Sock, BFL DK, and Merino Worsted 8 Ply bases.
