To our clients, In light of the current COVID-19 status within Alberta, we will be modifying our clinic protocols, so that we can continue to safely serve you and your pets. Please note the following policy changes:... 1) All appointments will now be done curbside. We will ask that all humans remain in the vehicle for the duration of the appointment. We will start by collecting a history over the phone, then bring your pet in for physical exam, and have the veterinarian call you to further discuss. - Examinations can be performed over Facetime or Zoom if requested. - We encourage you to dress for warmth and comfort, as you will be waiting in your vehicle for longer than normal. 2) Non-urgent wellness care will be deferred until 2021. If your pet is due for any wellness care (i.e. annual check-up or vaccinations) that you feel is more urgent, please call the clinic. 3) Any in-person interactions will be limited. We will ask that you make any requests or payments over the phone when possible. Preferred method of payment is credit card. We will accept e-transfer or cash if required. We realize that these measures can be challenging, especially through the winter months, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. It is our hope that we can return to allowing clients into the clinic in the near future. With sincere gratitude, Your team at Brintnell Veterinary Hospital #staysafe #thankyou

Within the walls of AARCS we provide shelter, security, medical care, love and new beginnings for thousands of abused, abandoned and homeless animals each year.... Here's our new video showing you what we do and a few stories that go along with it. These unprecidented times have been tough for everyone, individuals, families, large and small businesses and nonprofits. Animal welfare doesn’t stop during human crisis. If anything it will get worse with the effect on the economy. We need to be there for the animals as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and eventually recover from it. Thank you for being a part of something bigger than we are, for helping to save countless lives and bringing awareness and understanding of animal homelessness in Alberta. Together, we will do great things for animals. If you wish to make a donation visit aarcs.ca/donate. No amount is too small. If you would like to help us expand our reach and open doors in Edmonton, visit our Edmonton Page at aarcs.ca/edm-2020. Let’s get there together, let’s open doors for homeless animals. Please help spread the word and thank you for your continued support. Join us today at aarcs.ca.

However, we would like to take a moment to celebrate that, as of May 1st, our hospital has now been open for 2 years! To continue to ensure the health and safety of our staff and clients, we have implemented a locked door policy. Our door will remain locked at all times, to manage the flow of people in and out of the hospital, and maintain appropriate social distancing. At this time, we are continuing to book medical appointments and perform procedures with no change to our hours of operation.... What this means for you? We have transitioned to a curbside pickup system for food and prescriptions. We will process your credit payment over the phone. When you arrive for pickup, please call us and your items will be placed out on the walkway. We will ensure the safety of your product during this transaction. If coming for an appointment, please call once you have arrived, and our staff will escort you through the door to an exam room. The entirety of the appointment will be performed in the room, including payment, to avoid having people standing in our reception area. We also request that only one person attend each appointment. Thank you for helping us to continue to serve you safely!

Stuck in self-isolation with your pooches? Here are some ideas for canine enrichment during this time: Provide your pet an interactive feeder option to make snacking fun! Examples include: LickiMats, stuffable chew toys (Spunky Pet, Kong, etc.), and puzzle feeders. These can be stuffed with things such as wet dog food, dog treats, xylitol-free peanut butter, apple sauce, cream cheese, and Kong stuffing. Enjoy the brisk outdoors! Take a walk or jog with your dog. Both ...of you will benefit from some fresh air and sunshine (vitamin D), as well as physical and mental stimulation. Partake in online trick training! Classes are being offered through places such as Companion Veterinary Clinic. Your dog will appreciate the mental stimulation and challenge of learning something new! Learn to communicate with your dog! Check out Hunger for Words to see how you can train your pup to use language buttons (granted these are currently available for purchase through an accessible online retailer). Extra snuggles! ... because everyone could use a hug. (Using proper hand washing/hygiene practices before and after interacting with your pet.) Please post photos in the comments below to share with us how you are currently spending your time with your fur babies!

To give answer to some frequently asked questions: Currently, there is no evidence to support the transmission of COVID-19 through dogs and cats. This information comes from the AVMA, ABVMA, CDC, OIE, and WHO. Yes, our pets can be vaccinated against coronavirus, however this is a different strain of virus than that which we are currently dealing with in our human population.... Due to the degree of uncertainly currently surrounding COVID-19, we recommend that pet owners practice good hygiene before and after interacting with your pet. Please refer to the following release from the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association regarding COVID-19 in relation to animal health: https://www.albertaanimalhealthsource.ca//veterinary_care_ If you have any further questions regarding COVID-19 as it relates to animal health, please feel free to contact us at (780) 809-8508.

COVID-19 UPDATE (as of Tuesday March 17th 7:30pm) In light of the announcement that Alberta has been declared in a state of emergency, Brintnell Veterinary Hospital will also be taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our clients, patients and staff. Our current protocols, including any changes, will be as follows:... We will be limiting our services, and will only be seeing pets that require time sensitive or urgent care. Examples of this include puppy or kitten vaccinations, sick pets, and pets requiring emergency or immediate care (with the possibility of being transferred to an emergency hospital beyond our regular hours). Our team will be contacting clients in the coming days to reschedule any non-urgent appointments as needed. Any booked surgeries, dentals, or other sedated/anesthetized procedures will proceed as planned. Our appointment availability will be reduced in order to limit the number of people in the hospital at any given time. We also ask that you limit the number of people that are in attendance with your pet for your appointment. One person per pet is ideal. If you are feeling unwell, or are uncomfortable with being in our hospital during this time, please let us know and we can arrange a drop off appointment for your pet. We will continue filling prescriptions and selling food as needed, and as availability permits. To facilitate this as safely as possible, we prefer curbside pick up (to limit the number of people entering the hospital). Please call us from your vehicle when you are in the parking lot, and we can process your payment over the phone and deliver your order to your vehicle. Our business hours will remain unchanged for the time being. We will try to give as much notice to our clients as possible if this situation changes. If you have any questions about any of these changes, or have any concerns regarding your pet’s next visit to our hospital, please do not hesitate to call us at (780) 809-8508. As the situation in Alberta changes, please look to our social media for updates. We hope to continue to provide care our patients, while ensuring the safety and health of our clients and staff. Thank you.

Brintnell Veterinary Hospital 13.02.2020

To our valued clients and their pets, We wanted to let you know what we at Brintnell Veterinary Hospital are doing to help keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 outbreak. We are enforcing self-isolation and quarantine procedures for staff members if they show any signs of illness, if they have traveled, or if they have been in contact with someone who is ill.... Counter-tops, surfaces, and door handles are being disinfected between appointments (in addition to our regular cleaning schedule). We are happy to schedule drop-off appointments to minimize the amount of time spent by clients in the hospital. We are altering our appointment schedule to reduce the number of people coming through the reception area at any given time. We appreciate your understanding as we try to accommodate this measure. Most importantly, we ask that you avoid coming in to the hospital if you are unwell, have been traveling, or have been recently in contact with someone who is unwell. Please ask us if there are any special considerations that you may require. Feel free to call ahead for any prescription/food orders, and we can arrange curbside pick up. Thank you for your patience, and we wish everyone health and safety during this time.

It's Find-a-Home-Furriday! Please help us in finding these three handsome fellas a forever home! These three kitties are approximately 1-2 years of age, and have all been recently neutered, vaccinated, and tested (negative) for Feline Leukemia/FIV. They have been toughing it out in the Edmonton winter months, and therefore two of the three have frostbite damage to one or both ears. ... However, they had an extremely kind family step in and cover the costs of their medical care, as well as nurse them through their surgical recoveries, with the hopes of setting them up on the right track towards finding forever families! Kitty #1 "Van Gogh" (Bottom Left): Black and white domestic shorthair with a peppering of adorable white tufts. One ear with frostbite damage. A very timid but sweet boy, who is slowly but surely warming up to his foster mom. Kitty #2 "Picasso" (Top Left): Black and white domestic shorthair. Ears unaffected. Very affectionate boy who loves attention! Definitely the most outgoing one of the trio. Kitty #3 "Raphael" (Right): Grey and white domestic shorthair with an adorable spot on his mustache. Also quite timid, but warming up to his foster mom. Both ears have been affected by frostbite. Please call the clinic at (780) 809-8508, or email us at [email protected], if you have any inquiries!

In support of Kathy who means so much to all of us at Brintnell Vet... as a fellow colleague of veterinary medicine... but also so much more than that. A friend. A mentor. An inspiration. Please consider lending your support to this amazing woman and her family, whether it be by donation, or by sharing the cause. Thank you. <3
