Germans are still proud to be Germans. (South Africa, New Zeland, etc) The difference? The German people have awknowledged the genocide they committed as a coun...try and have worked actively since the reunification of their country to make sure the youth of each generation are reminded of the horrors their ancestors inflicted. I still think Canada is a great country but we'll never be the nice, loving, friendly country we thought we were until we awknowledge the systemic state violence, hate and racism that exists against Indigenous people both historically and presently in this country. I heard an idea through the grapevine of people putting an orange band around their flags this Canada Day to prevent it from flying freely. I like this idea because to me it symbolizes a desire to be better while awknowledging that Canada has not always been and in many ways is still not a completely "free" country for the Indigenous people's of Turtle Island - and if we ever want to fly the flag with true pride ever again - we have a lot of f-ing work to do. #Canada #Genocide #IndigenousChildren #MMIW #ChannieWenjack #CanadaDay #EveryChildMatters

Hello, Green Members of the Territories, The position of "Territories Representative" is currently vacant on Federal Council and I was thinking about putting ...my name forward. I have only been in the North for a short time (6 months) but I feel it is better for us to have some representation than none. My short-term goals are to 1) Help get us ready for the next election by supporting our local EDA’s with a voice on council and 2) push to make sure our northern policy proposals are better heard at the national level. Below is my statement that I plan to submit with my application: "Greetings Green Party Members, My Name is Brock Grills and I have been a member of the Green Party of Canada for over 4 years. I have been a regular volunteer in that time and am looking to contribute in a new way as the party's "Territories Representative" on Federal Council. I am still new to the NWT moving here in January of 2021 from Ontario, but I am committed to learning more about the people and places of the North - bringing their policy ideas and insight forward. I also am committed to building up the Green movement up here in the North and across the country. I believe firmly that our council, leadership, staff, MPs and membership can work harmoniously while bringing forward good policy for Canadians and organizing efficiently. If elected I would work with the council to make sure we are prepared for the upcoming election cycle with all candidates receiving the absolute best support financially and organizationally. I hope you will consider me for the Federal GPC Council under the Territories Representative position, and I look forward to working with our membership, staff, and council." We need to limit domestic buyers - enough is enough! Own more than the home you live in +1? Double the housing tax on every property after that and watch the housing prices tumble. De-incentivize land lording by cutting the profit incentive. It's a simple solution but requires great political will. ... A thought about Wet'suwet'en: I can remember being in high school and seeing these signs start to pop up. I am unsure what the Ontario Landowners Association i...s doing these days but I remember that this group was very active in opposing the 407 extensions. I also remember this group having lots of support, particularly in rural area's where people felt they had no recourse against a government that was seizing their land. This group felt that the government was coming in, taking their land and telling them what they were going to get for it. Local property owners were angry that their title was considered completely irrelevant. So let's take those feelings and hold onto them for a minute. I have seen many of the same people (or same type of people) advocating that the protesters at Wet’suwet’en need to just move and stop interrupting the rest of the country. Ignorant to the fact that the hereditary elders of the Wet’suwet’en never ceded the title to their lands. This was acknowledged in a 1997 supreme court ruling. Perspective is everything so we need to try and imagine ourselves in the shoes of the Wet’suwet’en. They are people just like me and you who simply want the power over how their lands (property) are used. So the next time you see a protester on the news or are mildly inconvenienced by these protests, ask yourself if you would feel the same way about it if the government was doing this to you, your friends or your family. Scary but true. These are just a few examples of vehicles being driven on our local roads before being stopped by members of our Traffic Unit. The drivers were ...charged under the Highway Traffic Act and received a $110 fine. Our Traffic Unit’s targeted enforcement and education campaign for the month of January is Driver Visibility. We remind motorists to make sure the front, side and rear windows of their vehicle are properly cleaned off before heading out on the road. It takes just a few quick minutes to clean off your car and doing so means avoiding a fine but more importantly preventing a collision and injuries.

Now is the time for the Canadian Conservatives to move into the 21rst century. The Reform alliance has held the balance of power for too long within the party. If the party wants to survive or be competitive in future elections it needs to move in a progressive direction while staying true to Conservative values of fiscal responsibility, environmental conservation, and defending the individual and collective rights of Canadians. I understand wanting to incentivize developers, but lets have a caveat that this "grant" not be grandfathered to current projects already in development. Especially when the city has already lost one million on this property in its $1 sale to Dr. Ingram, of which the relationships between her and council were never examined. Heck with foresight we could have sold the building directly to Atria then gave them the grant and still broke more than even. Whereas now we will have 2 million in loss tax revenue on this building, money that could be used elsewhere. #City #Peterborough #RealEstate #OneDollar #Housing #Development
