After 7 years of trying to affect positive change in the Little Bouctouche River, I completely understand why our cries went unheard. I suspect this product may... have had a strong impact on our ability to communicate with the provincial government reference the causeway bridge being replaced on the Little Bouctouche River. Unlike the Petitcodiac River where the province is spending 62 million dollars to remove that causeway, in backwoods Kent county instead of fixing a 100-year-old situation produced and managed by the same province that manager to destroy one of few attractions as popular as Parlee Beach I think its got to be the bureaucrats covering their own asses. Check out the label..... Micmac! I think they mean Mi'kmaq in that Micmac hasn't been used in over a decade and as I understand it all oysters that come out of the Bouctouche Bay must go through a patented cleaning process before they are fit for human consumption. Does make one think they may have mislabeled this product! So screw the environment it's the New Brunswick way. If I have my way the province will be revisiting this travesty, could get really expensive or not. Jim Davis See more

I wrote the Environment Dept. and asked if DTI removed the extra fill that was not supposed to be dumped. Their answer was "I sent an email to DTI a few days ago and I'm still waiting for an update." Here was their response when I complained about the extra fill. "We will follow the situation closely as the proponent works to rectify the matter. It is clear the Environment Dept is negligent in their job. They have ignored any facts that say the causeway if harmful to the river.

1.3 million over 5 years to restore fish habitat. Yet it is ok to destroy the Little Bouctouche River, just to buy votes. We have evidence filling in the ends of the Little Bouctouche River Bridge would harm the fish habitat. Totally ignored. I have submitted the information several times asking about it and the Environment Dept and DTI ignore it every time. And yes they are filling in the ends. The channel will be smaller than with the old bridge. DTI lied to the citi...zens several times on they project but no one cares. Like one fellow told me at the public meeting he did not care about the river as long as the bridge was built. This Government has no respect for the environment! "One of the goals is to help restore salmon habitat and migration in the Richibucto, Kouchibouguac and Black rivers.". http://www.cbc.ca//government-funds-fish-protection-plan-1

The first statement is from a DTI Official in regards to the Cherryvale bridge. Residents had a demonstration on Sat. The point here he said the other bridge is only 6 Km away. The two statements below this one are what Gallant said about the Ferry in Gagetown. The second is why they have to build a bridge on Route 134 over the Little Bouctouche River. In regards to The Little Bouctouche River Bridge saying it will lessen traveling times and cost. However it is only 1 k...m to Hwy 11 with exits on both sides of the river. Mixed messages for sure. "The province's financial situation simply doesn't allow for us to take on the carryover costs of reinstalling a covered bridge, which will have to be maintained for years to come" Trevors said. He also noted the other bridge in the area is only six kilometres away from the former Cherryvale bridge site. -------------------------------------------------------------- He said it would be to costly to replace the ferry.. Gallant said residents in the area can use local roads instead of the ferry. I know it can add some time and maybe inconvenience but again we are trying to make decisions on behalf of New Brunswickers to get our finances in order and we are trying to make the tough decisions that have the least impact as possible. ----------------------------------------------------------- The existing bridge is in advanced state of disrepair and is currently under severe load restrictions thus limiting heavier loads from travelling across the bridge. Replacing the old bridge will restore Route 134 in this area to regular traffic loads and lessen travel times and distance, thus reducing cost of associated travel. Route 134 is one of New Brunswick’s scenic drive routes which contributes to the tourism industry in New Brunswick. Not replacing the bridge would affect the Acadian Route and have a negative effect on the tourism benefits of having the scenic route through this area.
