Bromley Memorial Lecture and Event 2012 28.09.2020

Things to do around town: Tulip Festival: http://tulipfestival.ca/site/home/en Byward Market: http://www.byward-market.com/ (see site for shopping, restaurants, nightlife, events)... National Art Gallery: http://www.gallery.ca/en/ National Arts Centre (performance arts): http://nac-cna.ca/ If you'd like to wander around and take in the sights, you can walk along the Rideau Canal, down Sussex and across the Alexandra Bridge into Quebec (near the Museum of Civilization, see map), down Elgin St (lots of restaurants and watering holes), and Parliament Hill (lots of green space and places to sit). As for restaurants, I can make a few personal recommendations: If you are partial to BBQ/grilled meat, visit the Smoque Shack at 129 York St in the Market (http://www.smoqueshack.com/) For microbrewery beer and a lovely view, Mill Street Brew Pub at 555 Wellington (http://ottawa.millstreetbrewpub.ca/). Note that this place is always packed, so expect a bit of a wait. Bison and angus burgers highly recommended. For decent pub fare, the Clocktower Brew Pub at 89 Clarence in the Market is good and has a nice patio in the back, good service, relaxed atmosphere. For pub breakfast, the Aulde Dubliner in the market has a good selection and good coffee.

Hello everyone! Just starting off with some preliminary information everyone should have before arrival. 1. The location of most of the talks will be on the University of Ottawa campus, at the Desmarais Building (55 Laurier Ave. East). This is where we will start on Monday morning, and on each of the following days. ... 2. On Monday you will be provided with an information package that includes maps to the main sites to be used throughout the conference. I will also be posting the links to these maps on this page shortly so you can have them for reference and for planning purposes. 3. If you are taking taxis from the airport, the approximate cost of a trip from the airport to downtown (either to the hotels or to Residence on campus) will be between $40-$45. Please budget accordingly. If you do not have Canadian currency, taxis do accept credit cards and debit cards (Interac). 4. For those of you staying in Residence (90 University Private), go straight there and to the front desk. They will have your keys ready for pick up. 5. Bring comfortable walking shoes as we will be spending time moving between sites. I would also recommend light jackets/cardigans for those of you not accustomed to Canadian weather - the city is gorgeous this time of year but the temperatures can dip at night. So far, the forecast for next week is lovely: http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/c/pages/on-118_metric_e.html I will be posting more information about the city to help those of you arriving on the weekend shortly. Feel free to message me or post on the wall if you have any questions or concerns.
