Remnants in red. Part of our zero waste studio practice has always been to use up all the little bits - both from our studio and from others. This fuzzy red hair on leather is from a bundle if scrap we received ages ago from a local company that mainly made leather coats. The shiny red leather is a sumptuous goatskin from Celine. It was over produced & purchased by a local leather supplier. I made larger bags from everything I could (there wasn’t much) ... and these are the last little bits before I get to the really tiny stuff. Here we have one of our Chelsea Convertible belt bags & a Luna pouch. The Chelsea Bag is lined with a fabric remnant from Maiwa Handprints. The convertible strap that comes with the bag is a vegetable tanned Italian belt leather. #vancouver #slowfashion #studiomade #madebyhand

We’ve had these made for us in Peru for several years now & they’ve really become a staple in my winter wardrobe. 100% baby alpaca, hypo allergenic, lanolin free ... and super cozy. One of the things I love about them is that they are not bulky but still provide the warmth & for a really cold day they can be layered under another scarf ... or over your mask! Yes, it’s 2020. This is the colour palette for the first round of our zero waste Manzana wallets. Manzana has many meanings in Spanish one of which is block as in city block. The Manzana wallet is square ... like a block & perfect for those walks around the block.... The wallets are made from our studio remnants of leathers that are already from ethical sources. This limited run is made from remnants of Italian vegetable tanned leather that we have hand waxed & intentionally wrinkled. It gives the leather a very unique feel & accentuates this leather’s already wrinkly appearance. The subtleties in colour are also intensified by the waving. These are challenging times and although I’ve been thinking a lot, I haven’t had much to say. I find this little bit of chaos in the studio liberating. It was a sad weekend in our studio. Finn left us on Sunday after 8 1/2 years of daily entertainment & companionship. He was a colourful Black Moor that literally changed colours more than once throughout his lifetime. We’re going to miss him & so are the countless children that remembered him year after year from the Culture Crawl. Thanks to @matateishi & @lmckibbon for taking care of him whenever we were out of town.
