Benson Steel

At Benson we have been busy in many places. Like the Canadian Arctic where the Benson Steel team has fabricated and erected the structural steel for the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS). This building is a state of the art research facility located in the vibrant Canadian Arctic community of Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. CHARS has been designed and built to optimize innovation in Arctic science and technology, to welcome visitors, and to provide researchers with the accommodation and technical services they need. It’s an innovative facility that can support a wide range of research needs from ecosystem monitoring, to DNA analysis and where Indigenous Knowledge is recognized as fundamentally important to the co-creation of new knowledge.

As President and CEO of Benson Steel I am very pleased and proud to announce Benson Steel Limited has completed our first IHSA COR audit and, after review, we have been presented our OFFICIAL COR Accreditation by IHSA. This is another step on our continuing journey to zero incidents every day, both in our manufacturing facility and project sites. I would like to congratulate our Safety Manager, Mr. Ken Robertson, for his lead role in overseeing this submission. Recently we went to the construction site of the Pickering Casino where the pieces of Structural Steel fabricated at our plant in Bolton were erected by Benson Steel. We are proud of our work and wanted to show it:

Benson takes another step forward investing in technology: Coming up July 1st, 2020. The new Peddinghaus HSFDB-C is our new high speed solution for heavy plate production. Multiple capabilities, Greater flexibility and Complete control of quality. Plates up to 4 (100 mm) thick and 10’ (3 M) wide will be processed with ease.

A few days ago Sunnybrook Magazine (Spring 2020) was distributed within the Globe and Mail. They have a small shoot out to Sunnybrook's new rooftop helipad. http://health.sunnybrook.ca//rooftop-helipad-soars-at-sun/ Construction of the rooftop helipad was completed in fall 2019. Air ambulances began landing on the new rooftop helipad in January 2020. Benson Steel proudly was the structural steel provider for this project.

Things in the world are changing rapidly and people are taking measures. Benson has always work under the Safety First banner. Two days ago, Elaine Neve, posted this and we wanted to share it here. We are in this together and responsibly we will get through it.

Speaking of the L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda, we recently we finished our applications for the Steel Plus Network - Project of the year awards and we wanted to share it as we are very proud of the work that we are presenting for consideration. At Benson Steel we work every day focused on delivering extraordinary services and products for every project, every time. The L.F. Wade International Airport is a jewel example of the statement above. The logistics to fab...ricate the structural steel and ship them to the Island of Bermuda were no simple feat. As it is our standard, we worked closely with our partners in this project and solved every situation efficiently, on budget and on time. We introduced innovation in the process using the technology of 3D printing that supported the fast track P3 model to be able to forecast effectiveness of designs that scaled and translated in later stages of the project. The result is now an efficient state of the art facility that we believe deserves recognition. See more

Recently we finished our applications for the Steel Plus Network - Project of the year awards and we wanted to share it as we are very proud of the work that we are presenting for consideration. In this post the Spiral Tower, where Benson Steel is in partnership with NYC Constructors building the safety cocoons for the construction of this tower at Hudson Yards, 66 Hudson St. in Manhattan, NYC. The iron workers are inside a 460 ton steel mesh Cocoon that Benson Steel has provided. This technology hydraulically crawls up the sides of the building as they erect structural steel around the tower’s core.

Recently we read a post about the women in the welding industry. Less than 4% of the work force in Ontario in this field are women. Just over 9 months ago Benson started to change this trend internally and today 10% of the workers at our shop are women. We chatted a bit with them to see how do they feel about it. A couple of weeks ago we posted this video on our brand new Youtube Channel. We are changing lives little by little one day at a time. Please share this video.
