What I’ve come to realize about the BLM movement is that it has awakened a great deal of the trauma that we, as a people, have been forced to suppress in order to survive. I’m ashamed at the instances in which I could have stood up for my brothers, my sisters & myself but simply did not because of how normalized so many forms of racism have become. No longer will we, not only as the black community but we as humans, tolerate racism at any level. The stain it has left of our souls is being permanently removed as we step into a progressive future. The promise we are making to ourselves and to our posterity is that this will no longer form part of our identity. We have reclaimed our birthright to beauty, self-love, success & freedom. Our oppressive history will no longer serve as an excuse to feed into the victim mindset. From this moment onwards, we will march forward hand-in-hand with our heads held high. We march to create a better & fairer life for all in order to remind the world, but more important ourselves that BLACK LIVES MATTER! ~ Kevin Veyi
