Growing up in Jakarta August 17th was a day of celebration. It was a non-stop festival for the celebration of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence with everyone celebrating the freedom of Indonesia. Today it seems that this day of celebration has declined and lost interest in the eyes of our younger generation. With how quickly Indonesia has changed by the interconnectivity of the world through modern technology it has slowly taken a toll on the younger generations vie...w of patriotism and nationalism. August 17th is one of the most significant dates in the history of the Republic of Indonesia. It was on this day 75 years ago at 10:00am that the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence was read, marked the start of Indonesia’s freedom, and the establishment of the Republic of Indonesia.
